Morning Power Pick-Me-Up Shake for Thanksgiving

Celeste St. John
Everyone loves Thanksgiving in North America, especially those whose only job that day is to eat and get stuffed. But for all those matriarchs and few patriarchs that hold down the host/ess fort to make things ready for the guests, here is a fast breakfast recipe. It is a recipe I initially invented as an alternative to quick breakfast powder drinks laced with preservatives and ingredients that had no simple word root base known to the common public. All the ingredients in this concoction can be read easily by a child and or substituted if need be.

This recipe is for those that need to do a lot in the morning of Thanksgiving, but want to breeze past the morning chores and get ready for Christmas!

You'll need:

A blender

1 cup coffee, instant or pre-made and cooled

½ cup creamer, any kind

2 tablespoon of oatmeal

a medium to ripe banana

1 tablespoon of sweetener

a handful of raw spinach

2 mint leaves

a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger

  1. Get out your blender.

  2. Pulverize the oatmeal.

  3. Put the banana and spinach in.

  4. Pour in the coffee

  5. Blend it

  6. Add the sweetener and creamer

  7. Followed by the mint leaves, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.

  8. Blend it one last time.

This shake serves only one person but you can practice and add more portins as the size of the kitchen population rises. If any child sees the green and thinks it icky, tell the child it has mint. Spinach will not be detected in the flavor, I promise you!

Now you have your Thanksgiving morning wake-up shake!
