Morning Star Farms Meal Starters Chik'n Strips Product Review

Vegan "Chicken" Strips Made with Natural Ingredients

I've really come to enjoy most of Morning Star Farm's vegan products. Their Meal Starters Steak Strips are among my favorite meat substitutes and their Meal Starters Grillers Recipe Crumbles are almost always in my freezer.

For some reason I've just never gotten around to trying their Morning Star Meal Starters Chik'n Strips until now. They are an excellent source of protein with 23 grams per serving. Plus, each serving has only 3.5 grams of fat and 140 calories. I'm not as thrilled about the 510mg sodium, but there is a whole list of vitamins including 4% of the daily recommendation for calcium, 30% thiamin, 35% niacin, 30% vitamin B12, 6% magnesium, 30% iron, 15% riboflavin, 20% vitamin B6, 8% pantothenic acid and 30% zinc. Since iron and B vitamins are sometimes a challenge in vegan and vegetarian diets, I was particularly happy to see how much each serving of this meat alternative had to offer.

As far as vegan chicken alternatives go, Morning Star Farms Meal Starters Chik'n Strips are a good option, but maybe not the best. I served them with brown rice and broccoli and had to add some garlic chili pepper sauce to give them more flavor. They didn't taste bad or anything like that; they just didn't have a whole lot of flavor on their own. But, do keep in mind (and if you read my reviews regularly you already know this), we like a lot of flavor and generally add spices of some sort to most of the vegan meatless products we use.

Overall, they didn't knock my socks off, but they were good. I prefer the Morning Star Meal Starters Steak Strips and will be more likely to buy those in the future. However, I am interested in trying these meatless chicken strips in a vegan wrap with cranberries and Dijon mustard or maybe in fajitas.

There a great source of protein for vegans and vegetarians, as well as flexitarians and meat eaters looking for tasty non-meat protein sources. They are very easy to prepare and would be a handy addition to your freezer for quick, convenient meals. Although not my favorite Morning Star Farms product, they're all right, particularly if you add some flavor during the cooking process.

One of the great things about Morning Star Farms is that they have a comprehensive website with lots of recipes and great information. You can check it out at www.seeveggiesdifferently.com.

And, the new packaging that has "Vegan!" conveniently scrawled right on the front is very handy and much appreciated.

Wonderful information! I'll have to get brave and try this out. Laughing!!! I still remember the horrible tasting meat substitutes that used to be around in the late 1970's. Alternative food has sure come along way since then.

I like these, especially since they are vegan and they are coming out with more vegan products rather than the dozens of items that contain egg. I do like these, as I said, but I think the chick'n strips and the steak strips taste almost identical. Still, I buy both!
