Morningstar Farms Grillers Chik'n Made with Natural Ingredients Review

I Knew These Would Be Perfect for Being Breadless but I was Not Sure If the Barbecue Taste Would Work

Morningstar Farms is a brand that I have been getting for a very long. It seems that as long as I have been an adult buying my own groceries that I have been getting this brand. I have tried so many of their products and in fact some of their products I have on hand all the time. Whenever they come up with something new I like to try it just to see what is out there in the way of imitation meat. As a vegetarian I usually have some form of imitation meat in the house. Recently I had Morningstar Farms Grillers Chik'n made with Natural Ingredients in my house and here is what I thought of it.

I think that Morningstar Farms does a fantastic job at creating a realistic chicken tasting product as well as one that has similar texture. When I picked up their Grillers Chik'n I did not doubt that it would taste like chicken. However, I wondered what the grillers part of the title would bring to the food. I had previously tried their Morningstar Farms Grillers Vegan, Morningstar Farms Grillers Prime, and Morningstar Farms Grillers Original veggie burgers. I have to admit that the grillers line is not my favorite; it is not that they taste bad but they taste like barbecued tasting foods. Still their this particular product had an appeal because it was chicken that was not breaded. I love the breading that comes with the Original Chik'n but there are sometimes that I wish I had access to an inexpensive vegetarian product that tasted like breadless chicken for a specific dish. Since this product was the same price as the others I decided to try it.

The Morningstar Farms Grillers Chik'n made with Natural Ingredients definitely fit in with the other products from the grillers line. I thought that it tasted good and it was a nice change but again it was not my favorite. My son enjoyed it but admitted that he like the breaded chicken more and I have to agree with him. However, it was useful when I cooked a patty and cut it into chunks and added it to some stir-fry or when I turned a cooked patty in to many small strips for a bit of shredded chicken. I think that what would have been a better thing for what we were looking for would have been this texture but without the barbecue taste. If you like that taste though and like vegetarian chicken I would definitely recommend it.

The main ingredients of the Morningstar Farms Grillers Chik'n made with Natural Ingredients are soy protein concentrate with water for hydration, textured wheat protein that is made of wheat gluten, wheat starch, phosphate, and color added, wheat fiber, canola oil, and soy protein isolate. The patty also contains two percent or less of autolyzed yeast extract, methylcellulose, salt, yeast extract, natural flavors from non-meat sources, tapioca dextrin, safflower oil, spices, sunflower oil, wheat maltodextrin, dextrose, sesame seed oil, soy sauce that is made from water, soybeans, wheat, and salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, garlic juice, coconut oil, and citric acid. I noted that the patty has something added for color but the fact there is not description of food coloring I am hopeful that it is something natural. After looking at all of these ingredients I see that the patty is vegan and after looking at the nutrition facts I see that they patty is pretty healthy.

In one Morningstar Farms Grillers Chik'n made with Natural Ingredients patty there is 80 calories with 30 calories from fat. There is 350 milligrams of sodium, 210 milligrams of potassium, 7 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fiber, and 9 grams of protein also in a patty. The high sodium content is pretty common for these kind of products so that did not shock me but sometimes I become disappointed when I am reminded of it. In the minerals and vitamins section iron was listed 6% and calcium with listed with 4%. Overall the ingredients and nutrition facts were similar to other products of this kind so I was pleased with them. For me it is not the ingredients or the nutrition of the product but rather it was the fact that I was just looking for a different taste.

I am still very glad that I tried the Morningstar Farms Grillers Chik'n made with Natural Ingredients. As I said before I enjoy trying new products from companies that I have tried many products from. Not only have I tried their original Chik'n patties but I have also tried their no chicken products as well. The cost of this product depends on the grocery store that I go to but when on sale I can find it for as little $2.50 but when it is not I might see it for as much as $3.23. I think that I might get this product again if I was going to a barbecue because I think it would be interesting to see what people thought about the taste compared to the real thing.
