My family is trying to eat healthier, and we like trying new things, so last night we decided to give Morningstar a try. You can enjoy them fried, grilled, or microwaved, or so said the package. We chose to grill them, as that is how we normally prepare our "regular" hamburgers. First we preheated the grill and gave it a light coat of cooking oil spray because we weren't sure if they would stick (we were glad we did this), then we placed the 4 veggie burgers on the rack until they were crispy on both sides and reached an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
After cooking them we put them in hamburger buns and dressed them with the regular hamburger condiments. They were really delicious and had a lot of flavor. They tasted almost exactly like a real hamburger. I think the grilling is what really did the trick. They had all the classic burger flavor, veggie- style. My family was pleasantly surprised.
According to Morningstar Farms brand, compared to a regular hamburger, theirs offer 58% less fat that ground beef, 130 calories per serving, all while still offering an excellent source of protein. There are 4 burgers per package, 9 oz. each. These yummy veggie burgers can be used in a dietary exchange when on a diet. Griller's Original contains 6 grams of fat per serving, compared with pan fried ground beef, which contains 14.5 grams of fat per serving.
They truly do have award-winning taste, and in 2009 won Best Chefs award, a prize for "the best taste awarded to the brand rated highest over-all among leading brands by independent professional chefs." You can also join the Morningstar Farm insider club and receive fun benefits from the company.
All in all, Morning Star Farms- Griller's Original brand offers a viable alternative to those who still want to enjoy a hamburger-style sandwich, without all the fat. They are also a great replacement for vegetarians, or for those who don't eat anything animal-product, because they offer something of variety to our animal-loving friends.
