MorningStar Farms Veggie Sausage Links

Vegetable Sausage Links Without High Fat and Carbohydrates

Marie Anne St. Jean
Finding tasty foods when following a low-carb diet can be challenging. I've found some MorningStar Farms veggie products to be satisfying and others to be not worth the time it took to cook them. The latest of their products to hit my griddle was MorningStar Farms Veggie Sausage Links.

I purchased MorningStar Farms Sausage Links at my local Walmart at a price of $3.72 for an 8 oz package, which contained 11 sausage links. They are more costly than regular meat sausage, but to me, getting a healthier product justifies the higher price. Package directions offer the choice of oven, skillet or microwave preparation. I opted to prepare my veggie sausages in a skillet.

The appearance of the veggie sausage was much the same as traditional meat sausage and they browned up nicely in my skillet. The aroma was not as noticeable as one would expect from seasoned pork sausage, but the flavor of MorningStar Farms Sausage Links was adequate, although not as enjoyable as meat sausage.

I like the taste of the companion MorningStar Farms Original Veggie Sausage Patties, so I was surprised to find that the veggie sausage links were not up to the same standard. I do like both patties and links more than MorningStar Farms Veggie Bacon, which was a disappointment.

According to information on the package, MorningStar Farms Veggie Sausage Links contain 78% less fat than pork sausage, with 80 calories per serving of two links. Additional nutrition facts as noted on the package:

I much prefer MorningStar Farms Original Sausage Patties over the Sausage Links, but I still may buy the links on occasion to vary my low-carb breakfast routine. If you are a die-hard links fan, you may find the links to be satisfying, but do not expect the flavor to be comparable to real meat sausage links. If you are following a low-carb, low-fat and/or vegetarian diet, you may find MorningStar Farms products to your liking.
