Morons in Society: Things About People that We Shouldn't Accept, but Often Do

Jace Johnston
We, as society, have this collective ideal that everyone is special; that everyone has the ability to be whatever they want. 'We' think that if someone isn't good at math that they'll be an artistic genius. 'We' believe that if an individual is not meeting the standards and expectations set before them that they can be taught and trained to do better and exceed these expectations. While this may be true in most instances, 'we' need to accept that sometimes people are just retarded.

My job isn't anything glamorous. Like many of the tech-savvy-but-haven't-gone-to-college-yet people, I work in tech support. I received a call from someone who said that her website was printing in black and white and wanted to know why. The first question is why the fuck is this lady printing her website? Unfortunately I cannot ask that. My company provides hosting, that's it. I explain this to her and she cannot understand why I cannot assist her with her printers ink levels. She becomes irate, yells at me, and hangs up. Some people are just retarded.

We also need to stop making excuses for these retarded persons behaviors. For instance, ADD. While it is a real disease that does affect a number of people, its easily the biggest scapegoat for parents who cant control their retarded kids since the paddle board went out of style. Then of course there's the psychological babble about 'my parents never loving me' and 'I was made fun of in school' and all the general cliches that people use to make excuses for situations. Now I'm not indicting the school of psychology, I actually enjoy it. I'm indicting people who use psychology to identify their own personal issues, and then do nothing about them. The purpose is to identify a problem and then move forward, however people tend to use their new-found 'ailment' as an excuse.

I know a guy who has major issues with driving. He will not drive. If you ask him why, he'll say because when he was a child he got in an accident and he saw his mom bleed and it scarred him for life (his mom didn't die). So, this douche bag uses an unfortunate occurrence as an excuse to avoid being a functional adult. Instead of seeing a therapist, or just having some testes, and working through his issues and learning how to drive, he decides its better to be a leach on everyone around him. Notice how I didn't label this man as a friend, because he's retarded.

We need to start accepting responsibility for our downfalls and stop making excuses for them. Lets all agree to acknowledge that there are retarded people in this world and stop trying to pretend like the human species is too superior to have a weak link.

We, as a society, are turning into a bunch of morons! I really hate to hear people use the excuse, " I was abused as a child!" You're grown up now....get over it!

Points well made - language deplorable - you can do better than that. Welcome to the game of life - oh young and fun one.

Oops...sorry for the double post. I guess I was being 'retarded.' ;-)

If you haven't had the opportunity, you might check out the comedy of Bill Engvall (one of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys). His signature "Here's your sign..." is very much akin to this point of view, without the vitriol

"We" definitely agree. No need to moderate.

You write well and have good ideas. Civilizing your language a bit would probably allow more people to read and enjoy your work. It really isn't necessary for an obviously literate and verbally expressive person to resort to f__k and 'retard' to make points. Give it a thought.

Interesting article... though I have to echo those who don't particularly care for the repeated use of 'retards'. I know where you're coming from/going, but still.

My favorite are the stupid A@#$ lawsuits that occur. One burglar injured himself in the process of a crime and sued the homeowner for damages and won. They should have shot him and saved the money.
