Morrissey Collapses Onstage in U.K. Concert, Hospitalized but Not Dead
Former Smiths Singer in Stable Condition
While singing at his solo concert at Swindon's Oasis Leisure Centre, Morrissey struggled through a version of the Smiths' hit "This Charming Man" before collapsing. It was the only song he sang. Morrissey's ordeal was recorded by fans and Morrissey's collapse photos are available online at the event site, SwindonWeb. The Morrissey collapse pictures show him falling to his knees as bandmates and crew rush to his aid.
The stage went black, and concerned concert staff took him off the stage and into an ambulance. Minutes later, the concert's cancellation was announced to a disappointed crowd. Morrissey has had a previous history of cancelling shows, but never for collapsing onstage. He recently cancelled on an appearance on the British television concert series, Later With Jools Holland.
Doctors have announced Mr. Morrissey is in stable condition and have recommended rest and relaxation for the addled singer. The 50-year-old crooner's drug use has come into question, and while it's impossible to speculate now about the cause of Morrissey's collapse, Morrissey's drug use has included prior sampling of ecstasy, which could result in shortness of breath and respiratory problems.
Starting out his career in the 1970s punk band, The Nosebleeds, Morrissey is best known for his work in the popular 1980s New Wave band, The Smiths, with their biggest hit being "How Soon Is Now." After embarking on a solo career in 1987, Morrissey kept the signature Smiths sound, and has kept aloft as a musical artist ever since. His current tour is promoting his ninth studio album, Years of Refusal, which was released earlier this year. His previous tour in 2008 was to promote his Greatest Hits album.
Morrissey's legacy has sweetened over the years. Critics and music reviewers have lauded the Smiths as a band whose influence can be seen in today's up-and-coming musicians. Morrissey's solo work has also garnered positive reviews, including his latest album, Years of Refusal, and he has the respectable air of rock 'n roll royalty, one of the few musical artists who go by one name only. The Smiths have yet to stage a reunion, although rumors of a Smiths reunion in recent years have surfaced.

Post a CommentDrug use? There is absolutely no evidence of that. (A solitary interview from 17 years ago doesn't count. Had to do some deep digging there, didn't you?) People do collapse for other reasons than drug use, you know. Mortality is one of those reasons. In certain cases, it's even fatal.
"The 50-year-old crooner's drug use has come into question, and while it's impossible to speculate now about the cause of Morrissey's collapse, Morrissey's drug use has included prior sampling of ecstasy,"
You have GOT to be kidding me. Outside of this idiotic article, there has been NO discussion of Morrissey's "drug use". Do you realize that your source for that piece of information was an interview with Morrissey from 1992 (17 years ago!) in which he mentions having tried ecstasy twice...and that, QUOTE, "I'm not actually interested in drugs of any kind. I'm not prudish, I don't mind if other people take them, but it's not for me. I just don't have the interest."
Sorry, but you're barking up the wrong bush here. Stop trying to make some kind of scandal where there is none.
ecstasy?
i dont know that that is founded.
i have followed him for years and have never heard such things.
