Across a small table,
Jesus and Moses were seated
Calmly looking at each other,
There were no preliminaries
Needing to be completed.
Moses spoke first
Saying simply "Shalom"
To which the man from
Nazareth responded,
"We all share one home."
These two Jewish men
With a tradition shared,
Discussed the things they had done
Because they both believed
And deeply cared.
They knew what was different
And what things were the same;
They agreed what each did
Was all in G-d's name.
Their differences seems moot
They quickly agreed,
They both tried to help people
From their bonds to be freed.
Reflecting on wars
Fought in the names of their creeds
They had hoped
What they'd left behind
Would be peace, freedom
And salvation seeds.
Two brothers in faith,
One human
One partly divine;
They began sipping water
And wound up
Sipping wine.
All the time G-d was listening
And approving of what He heard,
It was clear e'en in heaven
That their source was His word.

Thank you for this. It should remind us all that we come from the same, believe in different interpretations of the same, and will all be going the same way.
I see a deeper message here, David, appropriate for all the religious conflict in the world today. This is an extraordinary poem, very well written.
Wonderful, David. What difference does it make what a person calls Him. As long as they believe and worship God, they are on my side.
Personally, I believe they have had many!

To Pamela and others who may be wondering:
Re. the G-d question...
To many religious people, saying (or writing) the name of God is considered inappropriate, so certain abbreviations are used (like YARWEH, for example.) In writing, the substitution of a dash for the "o" makes it OK to write.
While not my personal belief, I try as best I can to respect the views of others when I write about things that people may have strong feelings about.
Thanks to Pamela for asking!
David
Nice one!
Why spell it G-d? I haven't seen this before.
Nice!
