Cream of the Crop in Drama for 2010

Scott Bauer
Extraordinary Measures

Directed by Tom Vaughan

Starring- Brendan Fraser, Harrison Ford, Keri Russell

Release Date- January 22, 2010

With Harrison Ford in the lead, chances are good that this drama is a winner if Fraser can keep up with him in a race to find a cure for his ailing children. The heart wrenching story follows the desperate parents who fight against everything to gain the help of an eccentric doctor who is their last chance to save their children. I predict this movie will have the tender-hearted reaching for their tissues.

Book of Eli

Directed by Albert and Allen Hughes

Starring - Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, Jennifer Beals

Release Date - January 15, 2010

Set in a post-apocalyptic world that leaves little hope for the survivors, an outstanding cast lead by Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman battle for a book that can save what is left of the world. Top notch acting and a compelling backdrop, mixed in with gritty action and a religious theme, you will be fixated on the screen and cheering the sword wielding Washington. We will see if Mila Kunis can hold her own with veteran actors in this one.

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps

Directed by Oliver Stone

Starring - Shia LaBeouf, Carey Mulligan, Michael Douglas, Frank Langella, Susan Sarandon

Release Date - April 23, 2010

Normally I would shy away from a Shia LaBeouf movie but the rest of the cast and of course the outstanding directorial vision of Oliver Stone, rank this movie a must-see.

Set 20 years after the 1987 classic original, the story updates the telling of greed, power in recent scene of the market crash of 2008. LaBeouf plays an up and coming trader mentored by Frank Langella. Douglas (Gekko) returns recently freed from jail who has turned over a new leaf and attempts to reconcile with his estranged daughter. Death and revenge seeps into the financial tale, deepening the characters and the paths they choose. On occasion Stone has missed his mark, but with this sequel to a cult-classic, I bet he makes a real profit.

Robin Hood

Directed by Ridley Scott

Starring- Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Mark Strong

Release Date - May 14, 2010

Combine one of the best directors in the business, a pair of phenomenal actors, a huge budget, and the timeless tale of Robin Hood, we are without a doubt in for an epic movie. With Crowe cast as Robin Hood, and Blanchett as Lady Marion, the reality of the period piece will prove to enthrall movie-goers for as long as Scott wishes to hold us in our seats. Shot in England, with countless extras, the thrill of Hood's fight against Prince John stands to be a gladiator in the woods classic for years to come.

The American

Directed by Anton Corbijn

Starring - George Clooney, Thekla Reuten, Bruce Altman, Violante Placido

Release Date - September 1, 2010

From what seems on the surface as yet another "assassin with a heart of gold" flick, the story behind, always able and entertaining Clooney's character, Jack, may just make this movie one to look forward to. Hints of a deeper, more multifaceted murderer for hire push the plot past the revenge angle and move us to become compassionate to the renewed morality of the hit man. Most of the movie takes place in smaller, beautiful Italian towns, where Clooney has the setting for romance and reflection.
