Most Anticipated FPS Games of Fall/winter 2010
These FPS Games Should Wet Your Appetite for Destruction
Most Anticipated FPS Games of Fall/Winter 2010: Kill Zone 3, PS3
Kill Zone 3 is a soon to be released PS3 game incorporating new 3D technologies. Sony's development of 3D capable TVs and software has brought the FPS into a whole new realm of reality. One of the most astonishing features of this new game is the actual representation of depth perception making your TV more like a window into a new universe then a simple media center.
The unfortunate draw back to the 3D technologies which will be present in this game, is the cost of the hardware needed to play it in its full glory. At present a 3D television could cost around $5,000, and with extra 3D glasses costing as much as $150 each set, this coming luxury may be more for the rich then the average gamer. However, that doesn't stop the talk or the hype about this game at all.
Most Anticipated FPS Games of Fall/Winter 2010: Halo Reach, Xbox 360 - (Possibly PC after 360 launch)
Halo has always been an interesting addition to the FPS genre, bringing to the table the excitement of a science fiction based reality, and an involving storyline. Halo has even published its own series of novels revolving around the story based in the game. The sheer number of games released in this series gives off an indication of its popularity, but more over it's been all the talk on N4G, and other gaming sites for a while now.
What makes the Halo series so great that fans are foaming at the mouth to get this latest release? It's the storyline, Halo is one of the few FPS genre games that not only has an interesting storyline, but also takes a very different approach then the modern war games, or even the old fashioned demon games.
Halo sets you in a futuristic world where an alien race is trying to conquer the galaxy, and the only thing to stop them is you, and your Marine companions. Halo also incorporated a system of letting you not only use your enemies' weapons, but also their own ships, tanks, and cars against them. I've played nearly every Halo game, and I am eagerly anticipating the release of this one.
Most Anticipated FPS Games of Fall/Winter 2010: Call of Duty Black Ops, PC - PS3 - Xbox 360
Call Of Duty Black Ops is likely on every FPS list made by fans of the FPS war genre. I for one am not a big fan of this genre however, I can easily see why it is so widely popular this winter. The game features co op game play modes unrivaled by any other game to date, and the multiplayer mechanics can be far from simple minded. Many fans of capture the flag, king of the hill, and other tag like war games will find that there is plenty to do with your buddies online in this game, and the storyline isn't so bad either.
Call Of Duty Black Ops is like most COD games a wargame at heart, but this one comes with many new gadgets and ways of sneaking up on your enemy. From the ground cam dune buggies to night vision goggles you will get the full military tech experience in this game. Over all, despite not being my type of game this release looks to be very entertaining.
Most Anticipated FPS Games of Fall/Winter 2010: Rage, PC - PS3 - Xbox 360
Rage is another futuristic sci-fi game being brought to the FPS genre, id software and EA games teamed up to create a realistic portrayal of a world destroyed by an asteroid impact, and ravaged with radiation. Taking on the role of a survivor of the impact you will face mutants malformed by radiation, other survivors looking for food or to pillage you for clean water, and much more as you try to take back control over this ravaged world.
This game features your standard FPS game play mechanics, but also evolves beyond them bringing into the equation modern racing mechanics, physics, and game play, with a twisted metal personality. It's no surprise this game is one of the most highly anticipated in its genre this year, with excellent graphics and a combination of elements from fallout, twisted metal, and doom, it offers more for your money than the average FPS.
Most Anticipated Games of Fall/Winter 2010: Crysis 2, PC - PS3 - Xbox 360
Crysis 2 by EA games is yet another apocalyptic FPS game, am I the only one noticing a trend here? Seriously though, this kind of game idea is so great right now, I think due in part to the mass of 2012 movies, and peoples interest in the possibility that something big is going to happen, but whatever the reason the stage has been set for EA games Crysis 2 and the game play is spectacular to say the least.
What makes this game so great? Thought the graphics are incredible, my guess is it's the multiplayer campaigns that have peaked so many people's interests. Crysis 2 appears to be just another FPS, but having been made by the creators of Far Cry it's sure to incorporate much of the same game making mechanics as the great Far Cry did, such as the ability to steal vehicles, and smart enemies which will follow the sound of rustling papers to your location. The ability to shoot through walls will also likely be present in this sequel to Crysis 1 and the intro looks amazing. For more information check out EA games spotlight page here.
Most Anticipated FPS Games of Fall/Winter 2010: Closing
Some of you may know me for my articles which show disgust to the FPS genre, and while I maintain that many of them are unoriginal, that certainly is not all of them. These five FPS games break the mold of the traditional run around and shoot stuff FPS, giving you fun and interesting side games, such as racing cars or driving boats down rushing rivers, and expanding on the idea of a FPS. These games create an interactive first person world rather than a repeat of the many FPS that have been done before. Ironically each one of these titles has at least 1 story reaching over 1,000® on N4G which shows just how highly anticipated they truly are. People are literally foaming at the mouth to get their hands on any coverage of these games.
