Most Dangerous Cities in America - Violent Crime Rates

J.C. Grant
This article ranks the most dangerous cities in America by violent crime rates per 1,000 inhabitants. For purposes of these rankings, "cities" are incorporated municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants, and "violent crime rates" are the sum of each city's murders/manslaughters, forcible rapes, robberies, and aggravated assaults divided by the population then multiplied by 1,000.

Among the twenty-five most dangerous cities in America, six are located in Michigan, three in Alabama, three in New Jersey, two in Pennsylvania, and one each in Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

That's right, Chuck: it's because "violent crime" includes four different offenses, only one of which is murder.

New Orleans the murder capital of the world wasn't on the list.
