Violent crime rates, published annually by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), are the sum of each state's murder/manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault rates, all of which are set out in the rankings below. These rankings also include the three cities/towns (pop. > 10,000) in each state with the highest violent crime rates per 1,000 inhabitants.
Among the ten most dangerous states, five are located in the South, three in the West, and two in the Mid-Atlantic region.

That's one reason I moved to a smaller city outside Vegas:)
There was just something on our local news about the high crime rate in TN, which centers more around the large cities, especially Memphis.
