What you will need
brown construction paper
pencil
scissors
googly eyes
black marker or black pencil
clear tacky glue
red colored pipe cleaner
white sand
How to assemble your reindeer
Have each child trace one foot, left hand, and right hand on piece of brown construction paper. Next, cut out each of the foot and hand patterns. If your child is too young to use scissors, you can do this part for them. After you have your pieces, glue the hands on the top of the footprint to resemble antlers with the tacky glue. Cut off about 2" of the red colored pipe cleaner and twirl it into a circle to resemble a nose and glue the google eyes and nose on the reindeer. Next, make a happy face with a black marker or a black pencil.
This is how to make the basic reindeer craft, but you can take it further by decorating the antlers. There are many options you can do by twirling different colored pipe cleaner and gluing them as decorations or using red and green colored beads. You can also use glitter glue and add some color on the antlers. Another great decoration to add is to make it look like snow is on the antlers. Drizzle some tacky glue around the antlers and add some white sand that you can locate at your local arts and crafts store. Lastly, make sure you write each persons name on the back of the reindeer and the year the reindeer was made.
When you are finished with the children in your family, don't forget to make a reindeer of the parents and maybe even the grandparents and string them along a wall to decorate for the holidays. You can also add them to a Homemade Hand Print Tree or put a hold punch in the top and add some ribbon to hand them as tree ornaments. This is also a holiday craft activity for anyone who is has a Christmas party or even a birthday party during the month of December. Have each child make a reindeer to take home with them after the party.
