These royal couples would typically range from those portrayed as real commoners, those who never knew that they actually came from royal bloodlines, and those who wre born and brought up as royals. Most of these varying stories involved their struggles and how they fight for their love. And there seems to be a common denominator for these royal romances: "loving against all odds."
Danielle and Henry in "Ever After" (1998)
Set in France, "Ever After" features a "Cinderella" story with Danielle becoming a family servant after the death of her loving father, a French nobleman. She endures a harsh life with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters. Still growing up as a happy and strong-willed lady, she meets Prince Henry, the crowned prince of France and they fall in love. She also fits the glass slippers, but her stepmother is determined to have the prince marry her stepsister. With Leonardo da Vinci taking over the role of the "fairy godmother "in the story, the two fight for their love amidst the many obstacles until they finally wed.
Arwen and Aragorn in "Lord of the Rings Trilogy" (2001 to 2003)
Arwen and Aragorn of the "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" share the hardship of being separated from each other's arms because of their responsibilities at a perilous time of war. While the orphaned Aragorn was actually raised by the Elf King Elrond, Arwen's father, the Elf king primarily didn't approve of his daughter's marriage to him as this meant giving up her immortality to be with a mortal man. In the end, with the love of a father seeing his daughter happy and content, Elrond accepts Aragorn, now King Elessar of Gondor, as his son-in-law.
Giselle and Robert in "Enchanted" (2007)
"Enchanted" features the story of Princess Giselle of the cartoon world of Andalasia. Banished by the evil queen, she is thrown into the human world where she meets present-day New York lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey). Their love story becomes more complicated as Giselle is about to be married to Prince Edward, while Robert already has Nancy as fianc©e. After the most trying times in their lives, the two couples finally find true love with Robert marrying Giselle in New York, while Prince Edward marries Nancy in Andalasia.
Tiana and Naveen in "The Princess and the Frog" (2009)
Inspired by the E.D. Baker novel "The Frog Princess" and the Grimm Brothers fairy tale "The Frog Prince," the animated film "The Princess and the Frog" showcases a broadway-style musical set in New Orleans during the time of the Roaring Twenties. At an early age, Tiana has lived a struggling life with her widowed mother. She has big dreams for herself and her family. After living as frogs because of a curse, the couple's beloved kiss finally turns them back into humans and they return to New Orleans to celebrate their wedding and finally buy Tiana's dream restaurant.
