1. November, 2010 - Objections squelched to illegal aliens receiving in-state College tuition (Martinez v. Regents of the University of California):
The California Supreme Court ruled that illegal residents can attend California colleges for in-state tuition rates. Legal American citizens from other states must pay out-of-state rates averaging $17,000 more per year.
To qualify, the illegals must simply attend three years of high school in California. There is no stipulation that they must apply for U.S. naturalization, or assimilate into California's workforce after graduating.
2. October 2010 - Germany's Chancellor admits multiculturalism isn't working:
According to Reuters and BBC, German chancellor Angela Merkel reported disastrous failure with Germany's open immigration policy. Since the 1960's, to demonstrate more tolerance for other cultures, Germany has opened its borders to foreign workers to stay two years each. But millions never left, and the government couldn't handle how to grant citizenships.
Of approximately 2.5 million Turkish immigrants to date, barely half a million have learned the German language or become an integral part of social participation with other portions of the community. Only 470,000 have been granted citizenship (partially the government's fault).
Merkel has stated that many immigrants come to Germany just for government benefits. While some officials lobby for tougher immigration laws, others criticize her as being intolerant to the country's four million Muslims.
Related event: December, 2010 - Jewish longtime residents are leaving Malmo, Sweden, claiming increased anti-Jewish speech and violence because of Sweden's liberal immigration policies. Holocaust survivor families found the city to be a peaceful refuge until recent years. They feel that Mayor Ilmar Reepalu has aligned himself with a widespread left-wing European pro-Palestinian stance, thereby encouraging newer Neo-Nazi and Muslim extremist immigrants to imperil and threaten Jewish residents. See Yahoo Contributor Lorraine Yapps Cohen's report on Sweden, with additional links.
3. October 2010 - Man fired from Union job for wearing U.S.S. Bush sweatshirt:
Duane Hammond, hired to help set up a platform for an Obama Rally before the 2010 mid-term election, was fired because he was wearing a sweatshirt which appeared to support President Bush.
He tried to explain to the union supervisor that the sweatshirt didn't support President Bush, but supported the aircraft carrier U.S.S. George H.W. Bush, on which his son is stationed in the Navy. The shirt's backside displays a picture of the ship. Nevertheless, Hammond was told to remove the sweatshirt or leave. He refused, and was let go. A union representative told KTLA News he'd be paid for the day.
4. October 2010 - Due to Light Bulb "Go Green" ban, G.E. closes U.S. plant, gives job to China:
As of 2014, incandescent light bulbs will be banned due to not meeting efficiency requirements. Americans are required to use the new compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). The CFLs are better for the environment, but already acknowledged by the government as containing mercury and being dangerous to humans when broken or not disposed of properly.
Manufacturers must retrofit their plants to accommodate mass production of the bulbs. So General Electric closed its Winchester, Virginia plant in September, laid off 200 workers, and shipped the job to a plant in China.
According to the NCPA (National Center for Policy Analysis), the bulbs will be 50 percent cheaper to make in China, and representative H. Sterling Burnett says it shouldn't be surprising that more job losses have been caused by environmental regulations.
5. August 2010 - American Atheists win lawsuit over crosses (American Atheists etal v Scott Duncan etal):
American Atheists sued over 12-foot-high crosses honoring Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) fallen officers. Their contentions: An "impression" could be made in minds of passers-by, and unlawful use of public land.
The crosses are on a 55 mile-per-hour highway, placed at sites close to where patrolmen were killed. But the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of American Atheists, stating the crosses on public property create "government sanctioned speech" which violates First Amendment "separation of church and state."
UHP, a non-profit organization, uses private funds. They had permission for the public property, permission from patrolmen's families, and will place religious symbols of any faith upon request.
This ruling endangers all crosses in publicly held cemeteries, including Arlington National. Since American Atheists only objected to Christian crosses, it may not jeopardize the appearance of other religious symbols. Yahoo! Contributor Solomon Steele tells why this court decision is an example of the new intolerance.
6. May 2010 - Increase in young Americans' pro-life view; late actress's book reveals regretting her abortion:
A new Gallup poll showed pro-life Americans now have a lead over pro-choice, 47 percent to 45 percent. The poll shows the largest rise in pro-life to be among 18 to 29-year-olds, increasing from 40 percent in 2003 to 47 percent in 2010.
Related event: When actress Patricia Neal died in August, many pro-life press venues released Neal's regret over her abortion, as in her 1988 autobiography, As I Am (co-author Richard DeNeut, 1988); writing that if she could do it again, she would have had the baby.
7. March 2010 - Language Police - National Public Radio rules out term "pro-life" and demands "anti-abortion":
March 2010 - According to a National Public Radio memo sent out by NPR managing editor David Sweeney, NPR staffers can no longer use the term "pro-life" or "pro-choice." They are now required to call pro-lifers "anti-abortion" and pro-choicers "abortion advocates."
8. November 2010 - New Congresswoman's first act - Allow hats worn in session:
Democratic incumbent to Florida's District 17 seat, Frederica Wilson, replaces Representative Kendrick Meek (D) who left to run for U.S. Senate and lost to Marco Rubio. Wilson, who will be representing one of the poorest areas of Miami-Dade County, is known in her public life for wearing colorful hats everywhere she goes...
Her first act on behalf of her constituents: To overturn the rule of no hats allowed in Congressional sessions. She's working hard at this.

Post a Commentawesome writing!
I had only heard of two of these: the first and the sixth one. Nice job.
back to visit this one again, unbelievable stuff, thanks!
Unbelievable! Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard any of this.
Interesting to see other situations :)
I didn't miss politics much on my hiatus but missed your take on them Cheryl. Good to see you again too! I'm returning to this article you've referenced so well when my writing groove is back in sync.
Oh, and I'm posting this article to my Facebook page... I want more people to see this.
I got a headache after reading this... maybe I shouldn't bang my head on the wall so hard. "Merkel has stated that many immigrants come to Germany just for government benefits"... Yeah, that's pretty much true of a lot of immigrants that come hear lately, legals and illegals alike. Kavik... I'd reply to your ridiculous comment, if I could make any sense out of it. I don't speak "scatterbrained" English.
I definitely did not hear these stories. :)
Nodding my head at Jim's comment! Great stuff and a super read! Happy New Year! Keep up the good work! :)
