Both organic and inorganic shingles are treated with asphalt and hence are categorized as asphalt shingles. Because of use of fiber glass, they are highly resistant to fire.
Metal Roofing Shingles: Asphalt shingles are most commonly used roofing material in US. Definitely, house owners use other type shingle materials also. Although the asphalt shingles may not attract you as it is, you can get asphalt shingles looking like wood shingles. These are neither costlier nor you have to pay extra for their fire resistance.
Aluminum and steel shingles are currently the most popular types for metal roofing. They have lightweight, durability and A -Class fire resistance. Aluminum shingles are comparatively costlier. Metal shingle's fire resistant property is the main reason of their popularity, specifically in the draught ridden area of United States where there is an occasional threat of wildfires.
Wood Roofing Shingles: For most attractive natural rustic look wood shingles are a best selection. An odd job man can easily set up these shingles without much of effort. The wood shingles have a high cost and very low resistance to fire as compared with asphalt or metal shingles. However, it can be a great deal to use these over present asphalt shingles. Home owner can cut down his cost of removing and throwing them away.
Home owner can choose the shingles considering the cost and other factors like their look and fire resistance.
