The Top Three - A Whole Lot of Dancing

Jean Bailey Robor
What are viral videos and why did I pick these as the Top 3? A viral video is one that becomes famous through Internet sharing. Usually the video is humorous but that's not always the case. It may be a clip that's been televised or amateur video from a webcam, cell phone or video camera. It may be shared via You Tube or email. It can be a real life event or scripted. The requirement of a video becoming viral is that it's something that appeals to people enough that they want to share it with their email buddies, FaceBook friends, fellow Tweeters, etc.

#1 Viral Video

How could I not pick 'JK Wedding Entrance Dance' as my #1 viral video pick? After Jill and Kevin's video hit You Tube, it took the world by storm. Not only does it have over 48 million views, it's inspired others to film similar videos, including a spoof, 'JK Divorce Entrance Dance'. I picked this video because it's not only fun to watch but it had to be fun to film too!

#2 Viral Video

My 2nd viral video pick is 'The Evolution of Dance.' If you haven't seen this video, go to YouTube right now and check it out. Judson Laipply, a motivational speaker and dancer from Ohio, is amazing. Plus, if you're like me, the songs on this video are all familiar and that, coupled with his dance moves, brings back a lot of good memories. This video has over 142 million page views and counting. And if you like this, you'll enjoy his second video, 'Evolution of Dance 2.'

#3 Viral Video

Number 3 on my list had its debut way back in 1995. Remember the 'Dancing Baby?' When it first came out, no one had seen anything like it. It was blazing through email as , day after day, it was forwarded to friends and family around the globe. Originally, it was created to showcase 3D character animation software. Ron Lussier, an animator with LucasArts, began passing it around and the rest is history.

Today, anyone with a camera or a cell phone can create a video with the potential to go viral. Who knows? Your next video could be the next big thing on You Tube. Keep that cell phone and camera handy. You just never know what you might see today, tomorrow or next week.

Viral video. It's word-of-mouth advertising now and for the future.
