New York was the nation's biggest population gained since 2000. The ten biggest numeric gainers since 2000 were New York, Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth. Phoenix, Austin, North Las Vegas, Miami, Charlotte, NC and San Jose, California.

The fasted growing cities include North Las Vegas, Nevada; McKinney City, Texas, Port St. Lucie, Florida; Cape Coral, Florida; Gilbert Town, Arizona, Grand Prairie City, Texas, Peoria City, Arizona, Raleigh, North Carolina, Cary, North Carolina; Denton City, Texas and Lancaster, California.

New Orleans was the city which experienced the biggest decline in population, which is understandable due to the aftereffect of Katrina. New Orleans lost 261,000 from their population, which is over half of the 2000 population.

The other cities that lost substantial population were from the norther states. The cities that lost over 20,000 from their population count were included Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago Cleveland, San Francisco, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh.

The estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau were based upon Census 2000 population counts. The figures were updated using information from building permits an other indications of change.

Being a Southerner, I really wish people would stay away from the South. The South is known for it's small towns and warm hospitality. LOL Yes, I'm being selfish.

I thought about moving south, but after a quick visit recently, I decided I'm definitely a northerner

Sorry to say it, but Southerners - - on the whole - - are simply more laid back. In this day and age that kind of lifestyle is attractive.

I have a couple of friends that have moved to Vegas. Talk about a city growing by leaps and bounds. For those of you living in Vegas, please excuse me, but WHY? LOL> I have been there several times, and the desert does nothing for me. :)

This isn't surprising, but it's kind of scary. There isn't enough water in the west to keep supporting all those moving out there. The mighty Colorado can hardly handle all the damming being done as it is.
