1) Brett Favre - 497 touchdown passes
Brett Favre is the all time passing TD leader with 497 and if he does not retire he will add to that total. Favre is also the all time yards passing leader in NFL history with 69,329 yards. Both are tremendous totals and unlikely to be surpassed especially the yardage total.
2) Dan Marino - 420
Dan Marino played his entire career for the Miami Dolphins and despite throwing for so many TD's he never won a Super Bowl and only made it to one in just his 2nd year in the league. Marino had 3 incredible years in a row early in his career when he threw for 132 TD's and then only threw for 30 TD's once more over the final 13 years of his career.
3) Peyton Manning - 366
Peyton Manning has thrown for 366 touchdowns so far in his career and is 33 years of age. He has averaged 30 TD's per year so far in his career and would probably have to keep doing that until he's 40 to catch Favre.
4) Fran Tarkenton - 342
Tarkenton played for 18 years in the NFL and threw for 342 touchdowns. He led the Minnesota Vikings to 3 Super Bowls and lost all three.
5) John Elway - 300
John Elway was a great quarterback with an absolute cannon for an arm who's father was a college football head coach. Elway played his entire career for the Denver Broncos and made it to 5 Super Bowls where he went 2-3 though he basically dragged the Broncos to the first three of those which they all lost.
6) Warren Moon - 291
In addition to 291 NFL touchdowns Warren Moon also threw 144 TD's in the Canadian Football League before he played in the NFL.
7) Johnny Unitas - 290
Johnny Unitas was a legend playing for the Baltimore Colts as he came out of a sandlot league after the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted him and the cut him to become a four time MVP and lead the Colts to NFL championships and the 1970 Super Bowl win over the Dallas Cowboys.
8) Vinny Testaverde - 275
Vinny Testaverde played in the NFL for 21 years and threw for 275 TD's with seven different teams while compiling a starting record of just 90-123-1. He could throw the ball but played for some really bad teams.
9) Joe Montana - 273
After leading Notre Dame to a great victory in the 1979 Ice (Cotton) Bowl in which Notre Dame trailed Houston by 34-12 with 7:37 left only to have Montana return to the game after leaving with hypothermia and lead the Fighting Irish to a 35-34 victory Montana then went on to throw 273 NFL TD's and win 4 Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers.
10) Dave Krieg - 261
Dave Krieg played in the NFL for 18 years with six teams though mainly for the Seattle Seahawks and threw for 261 TD's and compiled a 98-77 record as a starting QB.
