Since my family and I are on a budget, we stay at Motel 6. Sure it'd be nice to stay at a fancier hotel but honestly, when you go to the beach, you're not there to stay in your room most of the time. You don't need a really expensive room when you can get a room for cheaper at Motel 6.
Motel 6 offers no frills room. It has all the basics such as beds, bathroom and a TV. It's a place to sleep at night before you leave during the day to go adventuring in Morro Bay and surrounding areas.
Motel 6 is located very close to the beach. You simply drive down the road it's on towards the coastline, pass a couple of business and other lodgings and you're instantly at the beach.
The rooms themselves are pretty plain but clean. Our last visit was late March/early April 2010. We stayed four nights and had two rooms. There were three adults, three children and two dogs. Room service came every day and made the beds. Be sure to leave nothing on the bed if you want it made because they are not allowed to move personal items. The only complaint I really had was that one of the bathrooms needed to be restocked with toilet paper and they never did so we had to track someone down and get some.
Motel 6 is pet friendly. There is no additional fee to have a dog (or cat) so if you are traveling with a pet, this is the place you want to go to. You are not allowed to leave your pet in the room alone unless they are in a pet carrier.
I love the Motel 6 in Morro Bay because it is right by a park. The park is merely steps away. If you stay at the back of the hotel, all you have to do is walk across the parking lot. Having three boys age 10 and under, the park was a very important part of our visit as it gave the kids a chance to play before and after we went places to sight see.
You can also walk your dogs to the park or to a nearby creek. The park has bags that you can use to pick up your doggie's waste.
If you are handicapped, Motel 6 has two handicapped parking places by the swimming pool. One of our traveling companions needed a handicapped area so we got two rooms that were right by the parking places.
I made our reservations for Motel 6 online because they have a program called "Click 6 rates" where you can get your motel room for a few dollars cheaper if you make your reservations online.
During the off season their rooms are pretty affordable, starting at $35.99 for one person (kids are free). When it's summer and other popular times, prices start at $79 and can go up to almost a hundred dollars.
Motel 6 is located at 298 Atascadero Road Morro Bay, CA 93442. Their phone number is (805) 772-5641. You can make reservations by calling them but I recommend making your reservation online to get a lower rate. You can check available rooms here.
