Mother Earth Awakes

Charles Ray
After clinging for what seemed like forever,

The last traces of snow and ice melted

And the bright green of new growth

Sprang forth from the lush black soil.

The gentle caress of breeze from the south

Replaced the sting of biting winter cold.

The cold silence from the brown and bare forest

Became the warm chirrup of frogs

Digging out of their burrows in the stream bed.

Suddenly, I know without a doubt

That Spring has made its appearance

And the gloom of winter is finally gone.

The Great Mother has awakened from her long sleep

Refreshed and ready yet again to nurture me.
