Georgie Porgie, Puddin' and Pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
When the boys came out to play
Georgie Porgie ran away.
Children enjoyed this rhyme for years. This year Mother Goose decided to visit a playground again, hoping to write a new book. She saw another little boy named George, and remembering that little boy from so long ago, she watched him eagerly. Her shock and surprise at what happened that day did not dissuade her from writing a new rhyme.
Georgie Porgie, Puddin' and Pie
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
When the cops were called out that day
Georgie Porgie was put away.

Post a CommentWhat! that's crazy! Good write up Rebecca!
I've been seriously thinking of leaving the U.S. within a few years. I'm tired of all of this. Your articles about Thailand are making that seem like a great country to go to for awhile. Yep, Sara Cole is nuts. This is happening more and more over here though.
Ha, funny, I just noticed I left a similar comment when you first published this. Yep, still happy to be in Thailand, LOL.
I'm so happy I left the US. It's a culture of fear, and I can't imagine living like that every day. In Thailand, I can give someone's kid a hug, say they're cute, sit them on my lap and not a Thai parent would bat an eye because, like in the US, child abuse from strangers is rare, but the US media has it so sensationalized everyone is now terrified. And 'Sara Cole' is a prime example of a crazy mother.:(
♥
Rebecca, this is a sign of the changing times and not so sure I like the change!
Great parody about the crazy world we live in.
I think this is a nice poem, and indicative of how things have changed. I can't ask to hold someone's baby because there are baby snatchers. I can't bake a cookie for others because there may be rat poison. Poor Georgie :)
When a 5 year old kisses another child his age it isn't about sex. It is simply just one way to annoy the girl. Boys and girls annoying each other in preschool and elementary school is common, and a normal part of growing up. Notice I didn't say bully, I said annoy. By calling this kind of kiss "sexual harassment" you are sexualizing children by your label. This is harmful. Your young daughter wouldn't be harmed by a boy kissing her and she would likely retaliate in kind.
This article is in no way condoning real sexual harassment. I am not talking here about high school or middle school students who are sexually aware. I'm talking about children who still, in many cases, think babies are brought by storks and shouldn't be jailed or labeled a sex offender for playing.
So you're sorry that sexual harassment used to be considered cute, but now people are somewhat concerned when little boys 'kiss girls' and 'make them cry?' Seriously, is every commenter on this article in support of sexual harassment among children? I'd like my daughter to be able to attend school without being involuntarily kissed, thank you very much. And I teach my son not to assault little girls. Sorry Georgie Porgie has to enter the 21st century and keep his kisses for consensual partners.
