Mother Nature and the SEC: Tornado Stalls Basketball Tournament

As overtime started in what was an awesome match up between MSU and Alabama in a back and forth pace up and down the court there was one contender who wanted her way in the middle of all the cheering and band playing. One player who was not expected to be involved in this title match up was Mother Nature.

As play was continuing in The Georgia Dome everything was brought to a screeching halt. As a shot was made heads started to turn upward to watch what seemed as a ripple effect across the top of the Dome. Players and officials started to come off the floor as pieces of debris come from the inside of the roof area and found it's way to the floor area. Mother Nature was passing by the Georgia Dome to say hi. The fans seemed to be worried but not frantic as the announcer broad casted that Atlanta was experiencing some sever weather. The Security inside the Dome also reassured fans they were in the safest structure to be in with the current weather situation outside.

Currently the game is on hold awaiting structural verification from maintenance crews inside the Dome. As broadcasting announcers kept echoing the sounds of what they heard as the sound of a train over head The National Weather Service confirmed their thoughts that at 9:30 pm the SEC had just dodged the bullet of a Tornado as it pass through Atlanta. CBS was sure to stay on top of the situation by keeping the public and all viewers updated to all current situations abreast within the Dome and outside as well.

As play has resumed it looks like it will be a long night for the next two teams to follow in the Kentucky and Georgia game which was to start tip off at 10:00 pm tonight. As Associate SEC Commissioner Charles Bloom announced that play would not resume tonight due to a second storm cell possibly coming through the Atlanta area. When the Officials over the SEC decide when to continue the remaining game it looks like Mother Nature might make history by putting the entire SEC Tournament on hold. As always though Mother Nature lets us know that regardless of the tournament inside or out if she wants to play we will stop what we are doing and watch her.
