Mother-Baby Halloween Costume

My child's first Halloween was during his third month of life so he was still a little newborn baby. I wanted a costume that would allow the both of us to go trick-or-treating (mainly to show off my little bundle of joy, but also to eat his candy) and make it easier for me to tote him around. I purchased a Moby Wrap during pregnancy and found it quite useful to carry him around in, especially in public arenas. It kept him close to me, left him feeling safe and my hands were free. Best of all, the Moby Wrap evenly distributed his weight and was not uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. Because of all these benefits, I decided to incorporate the Moby Wrap into "our" Halloween costume that year.

Together, my son and I went as a pumpkin. What I did is purchase a second-hand pumpkin long-sleeved onesie with matching pants with the footsies at a thrift store. This only cost me around $2.99. At target, in their Dollar section, I picked up the cutest orange pumpkin beanie for a baby. In the same section I found a doggy costume which consisted of a cape-looking piece of clothing with Velcro straps that would go around a little dog, such as a Chihuahua. What I did with all of this is this: I dressed him in the warm pumpkin outfit from the thrift store, along with the Target beanie. I placed him in my Moby Wrap in the front, facing outwards. I then used the doggy outfit to tuck the Velcro straps under the Moby fabric. This made the impression that my stomach, which contained the baby, was a pumpkin. It was cute and I got a lot of nice comments on it. This outfit made my child's first Halloween a memorable experience that will always make me smile.
