As an adult daughter coming from a culture that is much stricter than what is common for most American women I found this book to be of help to me in so many diverse ways. Growing up in America I learned that parents allow their children to be "free" and live a life filled with their own choices. This isn't to say that I didn't have my freedoms; I certainly did. But I found my freedom through rebellion, thinking that I'd have everything I wanted if only I did exactly the opposite of what I was told by my parents. In doing this I destroyed the most important aspect of my relationship with my mother, the ability for us to be able to trust one another.
There are so many trials to face on the journey to a friendship between a mother and her adult daughter where frustrations and disappointments will arise. This book taught me that there is always hope that an adult daughter can have a harmonious relationship with her daughter. Because of the story that is told in "Mother-Daughter Duet" I was able to learn how to connect with my mother in a loving and healthy way. I learned that those bridges I thought I had destroyed could be re-built.
Anyone who reads this book will find their own story in its pages. All of us have had to conflict with our mothers in one form or another. This book will provide you with the tools necessary to bring about resolution and understanding, to re-build trust, to find the ability to forgive, and to transform your relationship that you once may have thought was so complicated. Often the principles and wisdom that are taught in this book can be applied to other relationships as well. The dreams that you had of having a loving and close relationship with your mother, or your adult daughter, can become real when you learn the "Mother-Daughter Duet."
