My pregnancy went okay. I had anemia and I was always tired. I gained a lot of weight which was not fun for me. I had a cesarean section in October of 2006 to have my son.
My first day of motherhood was not what I had imagined. I was in a lot of pain from my cesarean section. I had not diapered a baby in years and I stared at my son and did not know what to do. My husband was a natural and knew exactly what to do. I think this was because he has a sister who is ten years younger than he is and helped to take care of her when she was young.
Three days later, I was home alone with my newborn son. I had problems bending over for a few months because I had such sensitive skin. I had to constantly pick up my son and put him down. It was very painful on my body.
The first time my son got sick I was sick too. I never thought it would be so hard to take care of a sick baby when you, yourself are sick too. My husband was constantly gone because he was on job interviews so he could not help out. I was up all day and night it was not a fun week that is for sure.
After the first six months, motherhood changed for me. I finally got into a good routine and adjusted my lifestyle to being a stay at home mom. Today, my son is two years old. Now, my days are spent running after him and picking up his toys. Motherhood is not what I expected but it changed my life and has made me a more grateful and loving person.
