For amateur writer who writes simply for the joy of writing the biggest challenge of writing will be the time. In the beginning the writing may become a little sporadic but once a routine begins to form and things settle down, a time for writing will emerge just like the rest of the schedule.
For the writer who creates articles to earn a little extra money, she will discover a whole new set of topics to write about; thus expanding the opportunity to make even more money. No matter what subject matter the new mother previously considered her expertise; she now has another market to which she can contribute. Again settling into a schedule and finding writing time may be a bit tricky in the beginning but with all new routines a pattern will present itself and the time will arise.
The professional writer who spends most if not the whole day in an office writing becoming a mother will not be much different from any other professional career woman in the world. The writer who is not tied to a particular company like an advertising agency or as a copywriter in a firm will find that working as a freelancer or contract writer can be advantagous when it comes to flexibility For the new mom freelance writer she can even take her baby along to work with her if she chooses.
Women who become new mothers by having a baby as opposed to adoting one will have some time to adjust to a new schedule and plan events around the needs of a new baby. For the new mom who adopts a child a little more effort may be required but the task can still be achieved.
New mothers may have to add to or change the equipment they use when writing; for example, maybe start carrying a small tape recorder to make notes when ideas for writing topics arise or to make notes when they pop into mind. A voice activated recorder will eliminate the need to fumbling with buttons when hands are not always free. Always keep a pad and paper around for the same purpose. Typing may prove to be a bit of a problem at times but putting thoughts, ideas, and so forth down on paper and then typing them up when time and baby permits can save some hassle and headaches. For example, when taking the wee ones to the park pack pen and paper along with the other items going to the park and jot down some things or an article while the children are playing. Later when they are napping or in bed the notes can be easily typed up.
Becoming a mother does not spell the end to a writing career; it in fact opens up a whole new world of articles and ideas.
