MOTHERHOOD-WHAT FUN

Kathryn Neff Perry
I think the nicest part of motherhood is the mess they leave behind, just to remind you that you have children.

I came home from work the other day to learn I definitely have children.

From the way my house looked, I would have guessed about 23 of them.

I had several bags of groceries but nowhere to sit them. From the looks of things, my children had a pretty nice dinner. Of course they saved some for me!

The clothes were still on the couch where I threw them that morning, not having time before I left for work to fold them. Someone sat on them because they were wrinkled and flat.

There were several dirty cups sitting on the coffee table.

My daughter was resting comfortably in my bed, because she had a bad day.

My son, Trapper John, was outside tending to a huge bonfire in the middle of the back yard. I yelled, trying to understand why he built a fire in the middle of the yard, using wood for the fireplace that I had to pay for. He had a large pot on the tripod with his traps in boiling hot water.

"Let me see if I understand," I started, "you made me pay for new traps so you could put them in a big pot of boiling water so they will rust."

He mumbled something, then looked at me like I was brain dead.

When I came back outside, after shoving everything aside and setting the bags of groceries on the counter, I noticed Trapper John had hung all his traps on the light post.

"Why would you do that?" I shouted.

He looked at me with his big brown eyes. "I was just thinking of you Mother, I didn't want you to back over them with your car."
