Mother's Cinnamon Oat Crunch Cereal can usually be found in health food stores and natural sections of grocery stores. It is distributed by The Quaker Oats Company. The cereal has a puffed, square shape and is a whole-grain brown color. There are eight one-cup servings in the 16-oz box. I paid $3.49 for a box.
Mother's cereals have been around for a while. The company was introduced as Mother's Oats in 1893. They have several healthy hot and cold cereals to choose from. The box states that "Mother's is continually striving to find different ways of bringing naturally delicious and wholesome foods to your table."
Nutrition Information
Each one-cup serving has 230 calories and provides 6 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 15 grams of sugar. One serving provides a daily value of 4% of Calcium, 10% of Iron, 6% of Vitamin E, and between 10% and 20% of Thiamin, Phosphorous, Magnesium and Zinc. The only added vitamin listed in the ingredients is Vitamin E, so it seems that most of these nutrients are coming right from the food ingredients in the cereal.
I like the fact that Mother's Cinnamon Oat Crunch is sweetened mainly with unsulphured molasses which is more nutritious than sugar. I think that this cereal may be a healthier choice than some of the more popular cereals found in the grocery store due to the fact that it has no added fat, is made with oat flour, whole wheat flour and molasses, and has significant amounts of some important nutrients. I would probably purchase it again when I have a taste for a cinnamon-flavored cereal. Final AnalysisI ate this with rice milk and I thought it tasted quite good. It had a strong cinnamon flavor so anyone who really likes cinnamon would probably enjoy it. It's very flavorful but doesn't have an overpowering sweet taste. I found that the cereal did get somewhat soggy while I was eating it but I still enjoyed it even after it became soft. I also tasted the dry cereal out of the box and enjoyed the flavor. It was slightly sweeter in its dry form. TasteThe first ingredient listed is oat flour. The cereal also has whole wheat flour in it so it would not be suited to those with Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance. It is sweetened with unsulphured molasses, malted barley extract and honey. There is no added fat as you may find in some other cereals. The cereal is cholesterol free and has no trans fats.
