Mother's Day Craft: Easy Broach for Children to Make

T Wann
Mother's Day is coming! Sure, flowers and candy are nice, but every Moms adore those little homemade gifts that children create with love! If you are a teacher this is a very easy and fun craft to do with your class. If you are a Dad and want to get in on this craft, you can be in charge of the spray paint! This is a craft that anyone and everyone can put together.

What You Need:

Pasteboard

Scissors

Exacto Knife

Gold and/or Silver Spray Paint

Assorted Pasta in fun shapes (macaroni, wagon wheel, rotini, etc.)

White Glue

Broach pens (can be purchased in any craft store)

Hot Glue

Heart Pattern (included)

Step 1:

An adult will need to do this first step. First, print off the heart pattern I have included with this article. Cut out the heart and place it on the cardboard. With a pencil, draw a line around the heart so that you have a heart drawn on the piece of cardboard. Repeat this until you have enough hearts for each child. Use the scissors and exacto knife to cut each heart out of the cardboard. Depending on the thickness of the cardboard, it may be easier to use the exacto knife. If scissors work fine, go back with the exacto knife and make sure that all edges are smooth.

Step 2:

Give the children an assortment of pasta and white glue. They will then glue the pasta on so that the heart is completely covered with pasta on one side. Set this to the side and let it dry. If any pasta falls off when you pick up the heart, you should glue it back on. You will need to let the pasta you glued back on to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3:

Hot glue a broach pin to the back of the heart. Make sure it is on the side where there is no pasta. Let this dry.

Step 4:

This next step can be done by a child, with the supervision of an adult. Select either gold or silver spray paint and paint the broach. Make sure you cover the entire front of the broach so that the pasta is completely covered with spray paint. Let this dry.

Congratulations! You have just created a gift that the Mom in your life can keep forever. If there is more than one child in your family or if you are creating this project in a classroom, make sure to write their name on the back.
