Picture frames - Children can make a picture frame out of Bristol board in a heart shape or the traditional rectangle shape and cover the frame with pictures cut from a magazine. You can even use jigsaw puzzle pieces, tie some twigs together to make a rustic looking frame or you could use fun foam for the frame. There are lots of ideas when it comes to making this craft for mom.
Coupon books - These coupons can include everything from doing the dishes to taking the dog for a walk to an extra hug for mom. After giving the coupons, she can redeem them for the task or favor that is printed on the coupon.
Give mom a hand - What better way to preserve a little one's hand print than to place that hand in some plaster or even salt dough? If you decide to purchase a kit (they can be bought at big box craft stores) these can be used for the outdoors in mom's garden. If you decide to make it yourself at home, it is best to shellac the project, so it won't break in half. This craft will be something that mom will look back on and always be grateful for.
Every mother enjoys a homemade card from her children. There are many card ideas out there. You could cut paper in the shape of a cat, a heart or a flower (anything that will join together at the top). Then, all you need to do is decorate it. Be sure to use heavier paper (such as card stock which is available at most craft stores.)
Branches - Another simple craft idea for younger children is to get a branch and crumpled up pink tissue paper and glue the paper on the branch. This is to make the branch look like it was festooned with spring blossoms on it.
Garden grows - An inexpensive idea is to paint a clay flower pot with bright colors and add a seed packet or purchase an already potted plant or flower to place in the pot.
Bath salts are easy to make - All you need is some Epsom salts, sea salt and fragrance or essential oils and some colorant. Mix the two salts together, then add the oil and colorant and mix together (it will take some time for the oil and the colorant to mix with the salt, so be patient). Then, once you are happy with coverage and the smell of the salts, spread out the salts on a wax papered cover cookie baking sheet to allow for drying. Allow them to dry for about six hours. Then put them into a decorated, tightly closing glass jar.
Homemade jewelry-Why not make a salt dough pin for mom? Salt dough can be made from flour, water and salt. Mix well and roll out, use small sized cookie cutters to cut out shapes, then embed a safety pin on to the side that is facing you. Allow to dry overnight and then flip it over and prepare to decorate. Paint it with a shiny, pale nail polish (to seal it, so it won't break) and then you are ready to decorate it! You can use tiny bits of lace, tiny pearlized buttons and the like (even bit of old broken jewelry can be used for this project!)
Mom will no doubt love her homemade present from her children and will treasure it for years to come.
