You seniors and toddlers will be making a craft that is a functional flower vase. This fun craft can also serve as a great gift for mom to have on Mother's Day.
You Seniors and Toddles Will Need the Following to Make the Pop Art Vase:
Class Bottle or Vase
Metal Bottle Caps
Paint
Decoupage
Pictures
Scissors
Pinking Sheers
To get started you will need a glass form. This can be a recycled glass bottle, glass pickle jar, or even an old cheap vase that a bouquet of flowers came in. You will be covering it, so you simply need something glass and water proof to decorate as a vase.
Now, clean out the glass jar or bottle. You need to let it dry completely.
At this point you have some decisions to make about this Mother's Day craft for seniors and toddlers. If you want to paint, then you will need to prime the bottle with primer. This can be bought in tiny bottles at the craft store.
If you will be decoupaging paper, then you want to simply go ahead and decoupage a coat of paper onto the bottle turned vase. The bottle will be slightly visible behind the next steps, so you want it to look good.
Now, lay out your Coke bottle tops. You want to metal tops, the kinds that come on the glass bottles. Now, these can be painted or decoupaged as well. Here are some fun ideas:
Take small pictures of the family and cu them out into circles the same size as the bottle caps. You senior and toddler can both glue these on the tops of the bottle caps with the decoupage medium. Seniors will want to do the cutting for that toddler's but both can glue!
You can also paint out the bottle caps in solid colors so they look like dots. Each could also be decorated with swirls, lines, and more. They can also put one letter on each cap and spell something special out on the Mother's Day craft.
Now, once any paint or decoupage medium is dried on the caps you are ready to start gluing g the m to the bottle. You can do this in any pattern you wish. I like to cover the whole bottle.
I also find that a good epoxy glue works best, but you can also use hot glue or a good quality white glue like Eileen's tacky glue.
