Mother's Day Crafty Gifts: Teacup Bath Salt Set & Photo Tree

Pearlygates
Here, I will show you how to make a teacup bath salt set and a photo tree for Mother's Day. These two gifts are for an older child or an adult to make. For the teacup bath salt gift you will need a teacup or cup and saucer. They can be very inexpensive if you purchase them at a thrift store or at the dollar store.

Teacup Bath Salt Set

Materials:

Teacup, saucer if desired
12" x 12" piece of tulle
8" piece of thin ribbon or raffia
Tag or recipe card
Plastic wrap
1 cup of Epsom salt
1 teaspoon of baking soda
8 - 10 drops of essential oil, such as Lavender or Vanilla

Scissors
Rubber band

In a small bowl mix Epsom salt and baking soda together. Add 8 - 10 drops of desired essential oil and mix well. Take the piece of 12" x 12" tulle and quarter it, (fold it in half and then half again) trim off the corner of the tulle, so when it is opened it will make a 12" circle. Then take a piece of plastic wrap and fold it the same way, only cutting this to make a 10" circle.

Lay tulle on a flat surface and center the plastic wrap in the circle of tulle. Take the bath salt and pour it on to the middle of the plastic wrap. Gently pull the sides of the tulle and plastic wrap up and together, take the rubber band and secure around the tulle to close.

Take a tag or trim a recipe card to 2 ½" by 3 ½" with a scissors or pinking sheers. Put a hole in the side of the tag with a hole punch or pencil. On the card you can write "Happy Mother's Day - add 2 tablespoons to bath water and enjoy." Take the piece of ribbon and put it through the hole of the tag, tie it over the rubber band on the tulle, knot and make a bow. Cut off the rubber band and place the bath salt in the teacup.

Mother's Day Photo Tree

Materials:

Tree branch about 16" -18" high
6" terra cotta pot
3" thick piece of floral foam
Pebbles, stones or marbles
12 family pictures
Spray paint of favorite color
2 yards of ¾" or 1" lace that coordinates with spray paint
2 yards of ¼" white ribbon

Tacky glue
Scissors

Take the tree branch outside and spray completely. You may want to spray the pot at this time if desired. Let dry.

Next take the tacky glue and put some in the bottom of the pot to be able to secure the floral foam. Cut the floral foam to fit inside the bottom of the pot and press in firmly.

Poke the branch into the floral foam. While still holding on to the branch, add the stones or marbles to the pot. Fill up as needed to hold the branch upright in pot.

Cut family photos in to hearts or circles. Cut twelve 6" white ribbons and glue each ribbons end together to make hangers. Take a hanger and glue to the top of each picture. Next take the lace trim and glue it along the front edge of each picture. Let glue dry and hang photos on the tree.
