Mothers Day: Make This a Day Mom Won't Forget

Mothers Day is right around the corner. Are you thinking about what to give your Mom for Mothers Day? Are you trying to think of a great way to celebrate/ I have some tips that should create a Mothers Day you special Mom will never forget. First and foremost think of everything a Mom does. A Mom kisses your booboos, even if it is on your little dirty toe. She tucks you in at bedtime, reminds you to brush your teeth, cooks your meals, washes your clothes, gets you up for school, takes you to all your activities, and helps you with homework. She does all this and so much more. She doesn't get to take a break simply because she isn't feeling well. So don't you agree at least one day a year Mom should get a break? Did you know that it has been estimated if a Mom got paid for all the housework she does and everything she does for you that her pay would be over $130,000.00 a year. But all she asks for in return is your love and respect.

Mothers Day celebrations are said to have taken place in the time of ancient Greeks and Romans hundreds of years ago. Mothers Day celebrations in the UK began way before the tradition saw the light of the day in US. The tradition of Mothers Day started with the Greeks who celebrated their spring festival in honor of Rhea, the mother of Gods and Goddesses in Greek mythology. Ancient Romans also celebrated a spring festival by the name of Hilaria in honor of Cybele, a mother goddess, 250 years before the birth of Christ.

In the U.S Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis once expressed a wish that someone should provide mothers their due recognition for all they do. After her mother's death in 1905, Anna's determination became strong and she with several supporters started lobbying for the official holiday on Mothers Day by writing letters to the people in power. To celebrate Mothers Day, Anna began to send her mothers favorite flowers, carnations to her local church requesting people to wear them in honor of their mothers. The idea gained immense popularity over the years and in 1910, West Virginia became the first state to recognize Mothers Day holiday. On May 8, 1914 President Woodrow Wilson signed a Joint Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.

Ok so let's get to what we can do for this special lady this Mother's day.

A gift is a great start to the day but it doesn't have to be an expensive one of a kind gift. Did you know your Mom actually probably prefers a simple heart felt gift made by you? Trust me on this. I have been a Mom for over 19 years and I know many Moms and they all agree a gift made by their child expressing their love, that they can put up and look at for many years to come is the most precious gift we could ever receive.

Ok so now you want to know what you can do that day to make it special for her. Tell her she has the day off. No house work, no meal to cook, no nothing except what she wants to do. Make her breakfast and serve it to her in bed. Be sure to do the dishes afterwards. Have Dad help you make a great supper or take her out to dinner at a nice restaurant. If the weather is nice a nice picnic or cookout would also be a great way to celebrate. Just make sure you and your dad or some other family member cook the food and clean up afterwards. We don't want Mom to do anything it is her day.

You can make this day very special and show her much you appreciate all she does and how much you love her. Make this a day of fun and rest for Mom. Don't forget to tell her you love her.
