I invited my mother up to spartanburg so that I could take her out to dinner for Mother's Day. This was nice because she seemed more than happy to be invited up to where I am going to college for the chance to experience a different scenery than what she was used to in her home town. After driving around down town we decided to dine at Delaney's on W. Main St. next to the clocktower in Morgan Square.

Initially, I was nervous about her decision to eat at Delany's because it is a pub and I was not sure that she would enjoy the atmosphere. Once we were inside everyone was exteremly welcoming and condusive to a friendly enviroment. Their menu had a surprisingly wide variety of foods to choose from ranging from chicken fingers and wings to delicious steaks. Even my brother, who is extremely picky, managed to find something to eat.

While we were waiting on our orders to arrive we found it very easy to enjoy the laid back, friendly enviroment of Delany's and felt as if we were among friends even though we had never met them before. This laid back enviroment is great for the adult crowd and although we enjoyed it, it may not be for children as we occassionally heard the loud swearing of the customers playing a tossing game. These customers were just as friendly as the employees and quickly welcomed my brother into their toss game. There was a rather large section of the resturant sectioned off for this tossing game which many of the customers enjoyed while waiting for their food to arrive. The object of this tossing game is to take turns tossing sandbags across the room and getting them into the opponents goal.

While these customers enjoyed the games, other customers enjoyed the bar that Delany's had to offer, which had a variety of drinks on tap to enjoy. There was also clean bathrooms to be enjoyed which were instock with toilet paper and soap.

Our food arrived or a timely manner, and everything was warm and exactly how we had ordered it. This is fantastic because my mother is extremely picky about how her steak is cooked. Many restaurants leave her steak too pink and bloody for her when she orders medium well steak. Delaney's cooked it just the way she liked it, with just a slither of pink and no dripping blood. I actually believe this may have been the first time ever that she didn't send it back to be cooked longer. I had the Irish Whiskey Steak and would reccomend it to anyone, it was amazing. The steak was a 10 oz. sirloin steak which was extremely tender and juice for under 15 bucks. As for my brother, the picky eater, he had eaten his chicken fingers so quickly I had barely seen them on the table. We were given to go boxes and on the way out we were spoken to by many of the customers as friends with comments such as "See you guys later" and "Take care."

I would reccomend Delany's to anyone looking for a place to be welcome and have a good time. However, my only warning would be is to leave the children at home.
