Mother's Day Gift Ideas for Large Families

If you have a large family and are looking to make group projects for mom that everyone can join in on, for Mother's Day, the following ideas are sure to be of help.

One: Create a family lottery for mom. Have everyone in the family, including Dad, write something on a piece of paper that they will do for mom. Make sure the author puts his or her name on it. You can make enough items to cover one whole week or even longer if you choose. Place the items in a container, such as a hat, jar or bucket, and each day, including Mother's Day, mom gets to draw from it. Whatever the item is that she draws, will be done that day. You can put chores on the slips of paper, such as washing dishes, washing windows, making beds, walking the dog, etc., or you can put personal items on, such as braid mom's hair, rub mom's shoulders, etc.

Two: Create a card game for mom that everyone can play. You can use family photographs for the insides of the cards or draw pictures of your own. Everyone in the family can pick their theme or part in the project. For instance, if you are making a traditional deck of cards, one person can be in charge of drawing the hearts, one the diamonds, one the spades, and one the clovers. Another person can be in charge of drawing the Aces, Kings, Queens, and Jacks. Another person can be in charge of the numbers. You can cut and paste pictures from magazines if you prefer that to drawing. Make the cards on posterboard or have pieces of paper laminated to make them sturdy and be sure that all cards have the same design on the back so no one knows which card it is after playing a few times. Also make sure all cards are created the same size. You can have dad create a nice little card case out of wood if he likes, to store them in when they are not in use.

Three: Create a family board game for mom. It can be made from cardboard or dad can cut and sand a piece of wood. You can use permanent markers to create the squares, tunnels, lines to follow on the game, etc. Cards that designate items to do can be created and put in the middle and a simple pair of dice will complete the concept. You can make the game a Mother's Day them and have squares on the board or pictures drawn on the cards that are specifically related to mom in some way. Everyone in the family can be a part of this creation, from the youngest person to the oldest and the best part is, it is a gift that will be extra special to mom and create fun for everyone.

Four: Create a family Bingo set. As a collaborative effort, members of the family can create the pieces that call out the Letters and Numbers and create the cards as well. The cards can have a common theme on them that mom likes or have sayings written or drawn on them, such as "We love you mom." The whole set can be made from poster board or cardboard. Simple cut the cards out and have someone draw the squares, numbers and letters on each. The pieces called out can be created by other members of the family, and the round discs that cover the numbers on the cards can be cut out by another member of the family. This is fun that can be created as easily or lavishly as desired and it will be a hit either way for the family who enjoys playing the game.

Five: Make a family feast for mom by getting the whole family involved. Everyone needs to get together and agree on a menu. The simplest items and chores will be done by the youngest and the most intricate or difficult items by the oldest. You can have designated chores that go along with this, such as setting the table, decorating, etc. Each person in the family will have a specific task to do and/or food item to make. Mom will love the effort and the family will have fun as well.

Creating affordable and fun gifts for mom is especially easy when the family is large because there are so many people who can help to make the ideas come to fruition. Use these ideas to create great family Mother's Day gifts for mom or come up with some other great ones on your own.
