Mother's Day Gifts

How to Celebrate Mother's Day

Dee Davis
It is tough to find the right mother's day gift. What do you give someone who gives so much of themselves and gets so little in return? The truth is... it's a really tough call. However, at the end of the day, what really counts is that you acknowledge and show appreciation from the most honest place possible - the heart. So what gifts can we give that expresses our love for the one who has given us life and so much more?

As someone who enjoys gift giving, with a bit of creativity behind it (not much); you can do something simple that shows a lot of heart. Which mom would not love that? Poems are a great way to start. You can decorate it and frame it. This is something she can hang on the wall for years to come.

How about a personalized Mother's Day card? The internet has a lot of free clip arts that you can use and there are also programs that can help you create your own personalized card.

Framed family portraits are also heart warming for grandmothers and mothers. You can take pictures of the grandchildren or even the entire family, and use the Windows Paint program to decorate your photo. Another option is to get a professional portrait taken of the family and frame it.

Snow domes are great keepsakes. They are great (I think at any time of the year) gifts. It could just be a little bit of a fascination on my part, but I think they are really cool. You can get really creative with a snow dome. You can put her favorite thing in there; that could be anything from a keepsake, to pictures of the children or grandchildren, an old coin... Be creative!

Remember, even if mom or grandma have been talking about getting that new plate set, sewing machine, corning ware or any kind of impersonal gift; WARNING... DON'T GET IT!! DON'T BELIEVE HER!! Most of us know this, but sometimes we do slip up, however, we must forgive ourselves and move on.

Roses do lack creativity, but they are also great gifts, because they are timeless gifts. Now, floral arrangements are even better gifts, because it also shows thought, creativity, effort and a lot of love. I can never say no to lilies, carnations or even roses. I know, classic female...

One of my fondest gift ideas is to create an album of her best moments! You can personalize the album with dried leaves, dried petals, and cut out construction pieces, hearts, costume jewelry, doodles and the like. Be creative!

Have a mother's day dinner at home. Decorate the dining room or the space where the dinner will be held. Have all her favorite people there, and not only serve her favorite dishes and desert(s), but also have a small presentation where those who would like to say thank you to 'mom' or 'grandma' can do so.

Throw a small play that tells the story of who 'mom' or 'grandma' is to the family. This will or might (unless you have a natural talent for acting) require some time and creativity, but it can also be very rewarding, memorable and a lot of fun!
No matter what you do, do it with a lot of heart and creativity. However most of all, don't forget to have fun!
