Mother's Day Gifts from the Heart

Give Your Mom the Gift of Your Time

With Mothers day just around the corner many of us who have mothers will be looking for special presents that will make our mothers eyes light up. While some mothers are into the glitz and glamour of it all not all moms are.

As a mother, I think some of the more memorable mothers day gifts that I have received from my children have been those that they have created themselves. I have my share of pencil holders on my desk but each one brings back special memories. It's Amber's pencil holder made of popsicle sticks, Alex's that's covered with felt and Timothy's which is a clay creation which is painted blue. All three hold a special place on my desk and in my heart. The kids were very proud of these when they presented them way back in the day.

Sure I have gotten the usual night clothes, candy and cards and other gifts through the year, but it's the ones they created with their own hands that were the most special to me.

Now that the days of hand created gifts created in the classroom are long past, I long for those heartfelt gifts.

What kind of heart felt gifts can you give your mom this year? I am not taking about gift certificates to fancy restaurants, health spas although they are nice, it's not what I am looking for this year as my mother's day present.

I want something that says hey mom, thanks for all you do for me during the year. I work full time outside the home supporting my children and I do most of the housework all the time but that's another article!

Here are some things that would just make my Mother's day a day to remember.

Day of peace: If you are a teenager, don't ask your mother for money! I always get this question at some point during the day, it does not matter which day it just happens.

Random acts of Kindness: Do some work around the house without being asked. If you see there are dishes in the sink do them, or mow the lawn! There is a stack of mending to be done, laundry out the wahzoo, flower beds to be weeded and a host of other things that I never seem to have enough time to do. It'd be nice if one of my children would do these things. Don't expect to get paid for these jobs, because they are a gift to her for all she does for you.

Cook me dinner or lunch. I know Mom's love going out for dinner on Mother's day so they don't have to cook, but I'd love a home cooked meal that I didn't have to cook. If my kids could make me lunch on Mother's day it'd be pretty darned nice. Be sure to add a parfait which is simple to make, just layer pudding and whip cream. The trick is to do something nice for your mom and show her you care for her.

Forget the cut flowers from the florists or the grocery store! Instead buy me a plant that I can enjoy for many mothers days to come. I love Iris, daisy, roses and Lilacs which all smell so wonderful. They also spruce up the yard or my house.
