Mother's Day Gifts to Help Mom Grow and Show a Garden

Teresa Mahieu
It's that time of year again when we are all thinking about what to give mom for Mother's Day. If you are like me your mom always says she has everything she needs. Here, you will find ideas for moms who love to garden and think they have everything they need, but they might not.

Mother's Day Gifts for moms Who Garden - Idea No. 1

First you should purchase (or recycle a used) 5 gallon bucket and a bucket tool belt from the tool department of your nearest Wal-Mart, Sears or Hardware Store. Now you may be thinking "What would mom's who love gardening want with a 5 gallon bucket and a bucket tool belt? Read on to find out...

Affix the tool belt to the bucket and then find gardening related items to fill each pocket with. You could place hand gardening tools in some of the pockets and seed packets in others. How about one of those nifty knee pads placed in the center of the bucket for mom to use to help cushion her knees while she is kneeling? Are her gardening gloves old and worn out? Maybe you could find a nice pair to include in a pocket. Take a look at the gardening supplies she has on hand and then browse the gardening supplies aisle at your favorite gardening store and use your imagination to fill this gardening bucket. If mom doesn't have a big floppy straw hat to keep the sun off her face include one of those in her bucket too. Don't for get to add a card and maybe tie a nice scarf to the handle for pulling her hair back out of her face or tying the straw hat to her head on windy days. Another addition would be to add a note in one pocket with the hint that the bucket could also be turned upside down and used as a "stool" for sitting on. I am sure this would be a wonderful surprise Mothers Day gift for mom's who garden.

Mother's Day gifts for moms who garden - Idea No.2

If you have a child that loves scrapbooking with mom then here is a hint for a Mother's Day gift for mom's who garden that all scrapbooking moms would appreciate. Gather some scrapbooking supplies from moms stash or take the kids to buy some special supplies just for this project. Don't forget the album. You could purchase a ready-made album or make one from scratch using cardboard or heavier cardstock for the front and back cover. Pretty floral paper could be used to cover the cardboard or floral cardstock could be used. Another album cover idea is to adhere a pretty floral print tapestry wall paper to the covers.

To make a book from scratch select the material for the front and back cover and select how many pages the album will have. Place the sheets together in book form and use a hole punch to punch three holes down the side of the cover and pages. Or, fold the cover and each same size sheet in half for a smaller book and pages. You could use brads to hold the album together. You could also use staples or use twine or ribbon to sew the pages together.

Next gather some photographs of mom's garden from past years. Include photos of her gardening tools also. Try to find pictures with family members helping in the garden. Keep in mind though that this is an album of mom's garden and the garden should be the focal point. Now use your imagination and creativity to make her a memory album of gardens past. Try to include years on the pages, memories of how bountiful the garden was or how the garden was the hit of the neighborhood. Journal about failures too, they'll bring big laughs. Include journaling in your child's handwriting to more personalize the album. You could also use empty seed packets as embellishments on the pages. Write special notes to slip inside the packets and they will become "secret pockets" to hold special journaling. This should be a favorite Mother's Day gift for moms who garden for years to come.
