Mother's Day can be extremely difficult time for a mom who has lost a child. However, it is very important that you do not forget these moms during these times. Some gift ideas you may consider may be something as simple as flowers, or a little more advanced, like a photo quilt.

A simple trip to the florist could provide you with a wonderful Mother's Day gift for a mom who has lost a child. Some flowers you may want to consider are:

A dark crimson rose. This beautiful flower is a symbol of mourning. It would look beautiful coupled with White Carnations, a symbol of purity and motherhood or Baby's Breath. Baby's Breath makes me think of the pure innocence of the child.

I would recommend a little of each mixed together and placed inside of a beautiful vase and tie a coordinating ribbon around the top of the vase. However, any combination of the above will make a beautiful arrangement. The florist will perfect the prefect arrangement for you.

A scrapbook is another way that you can a special gift for the mother who has lost a child. Gather several photos of the child who has passed, and create special layouts for each of the photos. Include photos from birth on up. Be sure to include photos of other family members interacting with the child. Include as many happy times as you can. This will serve as a reminder of all the happy times the child enjoyed while on earth.

Photo quilt is another great way to create a special memory. This will be a simple task if you quilt already. You will need to make sure you have the following items:

Scanner

Photos

Fabric paper

Fabric squares

Printer

Start by selecting the photos that you will want to use for the quilt. Then choose the size of the squares you would like to make. I recommend doing squares 6 to 12 inches square. Next, scan the photos into your computer. You can edit the photos if you would like, but it is not necessary.

After you have selected and scanned the photos, it's time to print them. You will start by loading the fabric paper into your printer. I have had the most success by only loading one sheet at a time. You will print the photo directly onto the fabric paper. Make sure you follow the manufactures directions for loading them so you print them correctly. Continue printing them until all your squares have been printed.

After they are done printing, you will lay them out using a rotating pattern. Start your top row with a solid square followed by the photo square. Continue this pattern until you have achieved the size you wish make. Assemble the pieces to make the fabric top, just as you would any other quilt top.

Depending on your abilities may determine which gift you choose. All the above gift ideas are perfect for a Mother who lost a child.

I have a silver Tiffany bracelet with my son's name engraved on the heart shaped charm. I wear it everyday.

One of the neatest mother's day gift's I have gotten since the death of my daughter 6 years ago was a necklace/locket containing her picture and a letter about her "gifts" to others. Also, just a phone call from one of Erika's friends on Mother's Day, perhaps relating a story, or just telling me I was still in her(Erika's friends') thoughts is quite special.
