Mother's Day: A Guide to Celebrating the Big Day with Your Mom

Mother's Day is right around the corner and here we are racing around trying to find that perfect gift, plan the perfect dinner and make moms day as special as we can, all in an effort to show her exactly how much she means to us.
I remember when my kids were little, some of my most memorable celebrations were when they would bring me my favorite coffee cup, running over with black muddy water and giant mounds of burnt pancake dough, swimming in tons of thick maple syrup, their idea of a mothers day breakfast in bed. I'd be forced to lie there pretending to enjoy their innocent attempt at showing me their affections, while trying not to cry, just because of how absolutely adorable they were, and of course, because I was forced to eat that horrible, but wonderful, breakfast! My very special mothers day meal was always followed by the presenting of a gift, usually that meant a ceramic ashtray or picture frame, made by one of them at school. Those are the days I remember the most. Those special days that are all to short, and never last nearly long enough, when our kids are little and they take so much pleasure in the minor things of life, once they grow up mothers day turns into something else entirely. A day when unfortunately there forced to, at the very least, buy you a card just because 'its mothers day.' Well, I'm big on mothers day, Entertainment, now that you have your menu and table arrangement planned, its time to consider the entertainment for the day. For a fun and memorable afternoon break out the karaoke equipment, performing your version of moms favorite song, or reciting a song or poem you've wrote especially for mom, is guaranteed to bring a smile to her face and tears to her eyes. Especially if you're like me and cant carry a tune, It's sure to make her happy just to see you try. Or if that's not to your style, rent a movie she's been wanting to see and watch it together, while eating those bonbons and strawberries. Gifts can be tricky, I'm lucky because my mom never wants me to spend more than 20 dollars on her. Of course I do, But still, its not about money its the thought you put into that gift on her special day.

Some unique and interesting things to try if your on a budget is a handmade, hand decorated card. Or a special photo album filled with those old pictures she's been meaning to organize. What about making a collage with pictures of her kids, starting from the time they were born until the present. I once did that for my mom and she loved it, Its still displayed on her wall today. Does she have a favorite movie or author? Why not visit eBay and look for an interesting picture or t shirt with her favorite show or actor, autographed is even better. Treat her to a day at the beach if you live near one, a day trip to a museum, or just an afternoon of shopping and lunch before the big night. Whatever you choose to do remember, its not about the money you spend but about showing mom exactly how much we love and appreciate her.
