Mother's Day Poem: For All the Mom's Throughout History

Sheri Fresonke Harper
After we figured out how to make a cell eat,
Mother's invented the reason to feed,
they collected us all at the dinner table
and said eat it all, look how I slaved.

For us, she brought fins and feelers,
tongues and backbones,
added warning stripes,
allowed us to escape her domain.

As justice, we became her refrain
told our daughters her stories,
and relied on her wings
and ate all she made.

We gifted her diets,
full of sugars and fats,
decorated our hair, toes, eyes,
and skipped out of town.

We rode her complex DNA,
argued, "but Eve's mom allows her",
and said drudgery, the feeding to be fed,
was the work of men.

Love it! Have to wonder if Eve replied back, "If all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you jump off a cliff, too?"
