Mother's Day Poem for All Mothers

"Mother Oak"

Lori Lane
There once was an acorn, that's me.
Dangling from an oak, my mother tree.
I hung on branches for dear life scared to fall.
But she said it's life's cycle that's all.

I didn't want to drop and die.
Mother told me a story how I'd sleep for some time.
And one day I'd fall, one day grow up quite tall
and then I would start a new life.

That day is approaching, I could tell.
The wind brushed my green shell as other acorns fell.
Could this be my time to sleep amongst the leaves?
Oh what will become of me?

My coat it turned dark through the chills.
Mother smiled at me as I dropped down by will.
Rolled under the leaves as they sheltered me.
Alas, I escaped the deep freeze.

And one sunny day the snow did melt.
My shell began cracking, I frightened myself
when all of the sudden the darkness turned to light
I'm growing, my mother was right.

In all of my years as an oak
my mother's love lived on, I've come to know.
As I witness the acorns sprout from my branch.
my love for each acorn now grows.
