Mother's Day Remembrance Puzzle

A Fun Activity for Mother and Kids

Monica Merrin
Mother's Day is such a special day for mothers and children. It is a time for mothers to be thanked, appreciated, and loved. Also, it is a time for a mother to be reminded of the blessing of children. It is a time for kids to express their love toward their mother. It is a time for both mother and child to spend quality time together . . . a time set aside to enjoy one another. I would like to share with you a Mother's Day activity that will enable mother and child to remember good times and create new special memories.

A Mother's Day Remembrance Puzzle allows mother and child to both be creative. There is no set way to make the puzzle. I am just going to give basic directions. Feel free to use your creative imaginations in this activity/craft.

1. Buy a blank puzzle at a craft store. I have seen them at Michael's for approximately $4.00-$5.00. Purchase a picture frame for the size of the puzzle. Finally, buy puzzle glue. I have bought some at Walmart for a couple of dollars.

2. On Mother's Day, get out the photo albums, pictures, scrapbooks, computer picture files, etc.

3. Look through baby pictures, fun activities, family vacations, Christmas shots, birthday celebrations, etc. Don't rush through this part of the activity. Discuss events; remember laughs; recall presents; enjoy one another.

4. Pick out a picture.

5. Then, with colored pencils, crayons, or markers, draw and color the picture on the blank puzzle.

6. When the puzzle picture is done, take the pieces apart and put the puzzle together.

7. After playing with the puzzle, brush the puzzle glue over the puzzle and let dry.

8. When the puzzle is dry, flip it over and brush glue on the other side of the puzzle, making sure the puzzle will stay together.

9. Once the puzzle is completely dry, frame it.

10. Hang the framed puzzle in the child's room.

If there are multiple children, each child may want to do their own puzzle for their own room. For one framed puzzle picture, you should spend no more than $15.00 at the most. Obviously, the cheaper the frame the less expensive the project. So, enjoy a fun activity with your children on Mother's Day. Enjoy past memories and create new ones!

Great idea! One that keeps on giving over the years, too, I think. :o)
