Mother's Day and the Single Red Rose

CINDY CAMACK-INCE
I had been planning my wedding and had even forgotten that it would be held the day before Mother's Day. Cake, dresses, tuxes, food, flowers, church, reception hall, all the details - that's all my mind could think about. Was everything done and in place?

Then on Friday my son gave me a vase with a single red rose and a card that said "Happy Mother's Day, Love Scotty." He told me that I would be gone on Sunday for my Honeymoon and he wanted me to have it early. The tears rolled down my face and with a big hug the stresses of the week went away and I remembered how much I loved my Family.

On Saturday morning the bridal flowers arrived. My bouquet was simple with white and lavender daisies. As I headed out the door I glanced over at that beautiful red rose my son had given me. A flush of warmth came over me as I took that rose and placed it in my bouquet. It stood proud in the center of those simple flowers.

My son was going to walk me down the aisle that day. I was so proud to have him by my side and I wanted everyone to see his beautiful red rose.

Many of my guests asked about the significance of that single red rose in my bouquet. With a tear rolling down my cheek I simply said "It signifies the love of my son."

Many years have gone by and the kids have all grown. The young man that gave such a beautiful gift to his Mom now has a wife and is expecting his first child. So this June he will celebrate his first Father's Day, experiencing a feeling in his heart that no words can express.

For me that was the most memorable Mother's Day ever. A simple red rose and a great big hug. Perfection at it's best.
