Mother's Day Sweet Treats for Brunch and Dessert Ideas

Mick
With Mother's Day less than a month away now, plans are being laid to make it the best one ever. Here are some recipes that will make your Mother's Day extra special.

Brunch is always a favorite for Mother's Day. Although a great deal of mothers work out of the home and increasingly are not the only or the main cook, tradition gives mothers this one day off. Brunch is best if the kids and significant other can cook it without any sort of help from Mom, so simple is best. Waffles with fruit (strawberries can easily be made to look like hearts for an extra special touch), scrambled eggs and toast creates a tidy meal easily served in bed. Coffee is the standard drink, but why not add a fruit smoothie? A fairly simple one can be made using a cup of fresh or frozen strawberries, a cup of ice, 6 oz of vanilla yogurt and a 10-16 oz container of frozen juice concentrate.

Dessert foods, including cupcakes and cake, are easily decorated for Mother's Day. Kids can paint on their own decorations using any of a number of icings. Most grocery stores also sell decoration "crayons" that make decorating easier for little hands. Multi-colored sprinkles make for a fun time, though Mom may like it better if you avoid the round ones that roll around.
