Mother's Day: Things to Do with Mom

Ramona Taylor
It's said that the moment a child is born, a woman transforms into a mother and her world forever changes. And, that's what Mother's Day is about! On this most special day, children, young and old, struggle to find that one gift that speaks to their love, appreciation and respect for their mother. While the giver may not realize, sometimes, the best gifts that we can give are special moments spent with mom. Here are some ideas of wonderful things to do with your mother on Mother's Day.

Start the day right with breakfast

Better than a Norman Rockwell painting, giving mother breakfast in bed or taking her out to a nice early morning meal never gets old. Children has ruined many a kitchen in pursuit of this special treat for mother to be waited on and pampered. As older kids, restaurants and chefs have saved us all. Regardless of the method, there is something special to have your mother wake up to her child's smiling face and have time to share memories and meal.

Spa and More

Mother's Day is about pampering your mother and a great way to do this- especially if she loves being pampered- is to set a spa or beauty day. Some mothers just like pedicures and manicures others may want the works. Set a time that it's just "the girls." Invite your aunts, grandmother, sisters and cousins to all take part in this special day in which you can laugh, cry and be beautified.

Spread the Good Word and Remember

Since Mother's Day is a Sunday, many Christian churches have Sunday services geared toward celebrating Mother's Day. As part of the service, you can offer wonderful stories or words about your mother. For missing their mothers, either because of distance or the passing of their loved one, children can take this time to offer words of remembrance and then visit their mother's burial site. As with some families, the token can go so far as sharing or wearing something that reminds them of their mother and/or grandmothers.

Meals and Wheels

On Mother's Day, your mother is a superstar! So, treat her like one. On Mother's Day have your mother escorted around in style. Hire a limo to take her out for lunch or dinner at her favorite, or soon to be favorite, restaurant. Invite her best friends or other close relatives. This will certainly be a day she remembers!

Time Is A Many Splendid Thing

Some mothers like to bike. Some like the slots! Some like to hike. Some like to shop. Whatever your mother's favorite activity, take Mother's Day to share that activity with her. Map out a fun filled day of just being together cooking, walking, driving, sewing, or just gardening. It's a time to talk and remember and create many wonderful things and memories.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

You've had a lifetime to share your mother with the rest of the world and at times, you may forget those most precious moments. Let her know those special times you're your first trip to the zoo, or the first gift you made her. Recreate those moments and add a special twist. You'll realize how young you both feel after a few laughs.

While we should let our mothers know what they mean to us each day, Mother's Day seems to be that special time for us to truly expression our love and appreciation. Don't forget to give your mother lots of hugs and kisses! And, if you get the chance, make each Mother's Day special.
