Mothers Everywhere Gasp as Casey Anthony Found Not Guilty

Loki Morgan

COMMENTARY | Mothers everywhere gasped in disbelief Tuesday as Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murdering her daughter, Caylee Anthony . Just as shocking was the fact that Casey was also found not guilty of aggravated child abuse , according to CNN. The question that echos for many of us is: What did the jury see that we missed? How could Casey Anthony be found innocent of killing her daughter?

Did the jurors believe Caylee's death was an accident?

It is hard to believe any mother would hide the body of her dead child. It is even harder to believe that a mom would hide the body of her baby and then go out to a nightclub. If something tragic happened to my child, you better believe that I would be trying to resuscitate him until someone pulled me away. There is no way that any of the mothers I know would try to cover up the accidental death of a child. It is unfathomable that a loving parent could find their child dead, hide the body, then lie to police.

How is this not considered aggravated child abuse at the very least?

In order to find Casey guilty of aggravated child abuse, the jury must have believed that she: committed aggravated battery on Caylee; willfully tortured, maliciously punished, or willfully and unlawfully caged Caylee; or knowingly or willfully abused Caylee and in doing so caused great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement to Caylee , according to the Law Offices of David M. Edelstein. Apparently if the child is already dead it is OK to duct tape her and cage her in a garbage bag.

Where do we go from here?

Casey was only found guilty of lying to police. We can only hope that she stays far away from the spotlight. I pledge not to support anything that will financially benefit Casey Anthony. Caylee's death is so tragic. That sweet little girl, whose pictures we have all seen, should not have her death be used for profit. Normally I would say the death of a child is the worst punishment a parent can receive, but in Casey's case I am not sure that is true.

Excellent article, well written and bravo!! :-) I think the jury did not understand the high tech evidence presented by the prosecution. Common sense tells us this situation was all wrong, but the jury did not see it that way. Believe this, karma comes back and I would not be surprised to see Casey back in trouble sometime in the future. Again, excellent writing!

Great article. I wrote one too on both Casey and on Caylee.

I think it is time for the prosecution in any case to prepare their case. That did not happen. All the eloquent words in the world should not sway a jury that must depend on facts and evidence.

    The system is broken.

It was reminiscent of how I felt after OJ Simpson's verdict - how can guilty NOT be the verdict? I dunno. cheers

We can be upset. Keep in mind, she had a fair trial. This is how our system works.
