Description
Mother's Toasted Oat Bran Cereal can usually be found in health food stores and natural sections of grocery stores. It is distributed by The Quaker Oats Company. The cereal has a waffle shape and is a toasty brown color. There are 14 servings in the 15.5-oz box.
Mother's cereals have been around for a while. The company was introduced as Mother's Oats in 1893.
Nutrition Information
The first ingredient listed is oat bran. The box states that oat bran helps remove cholesterol. The cereal also includes oat flour, whole wheat flour and corn flour in addition to a few other ingredients. It is sweetened with unsulphured molasses. There is no added fat like you might find in some other cereals.
Each 3/4-cup serving provides 120 calories, 4 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and only 5 grams of sugar. One serving provides a daily value of 2% of Calcium, 6% of Iron, 4% of Vitamin E, and 10% of each of Thiamin, Phosphorous and Magnesium. The only added vitamin listed in the ingredients is Vitamin E, so it seems that most of these nutrients are coming right from the food ingredients in the cereal.
Taste
I ate a bowl of this cereal with rice milk and I really enjoyed it. It's very flavorful but doesn't have an overpowering sweet taste. I found that the cereal did get somewhat soggy while I was eating it but I still enjoyed eating it right down to the bottom of the bowl. I also tasted the dry cereal out of the box and found that I liked the taste. It tasted a little sweeter in it's dry form than it did with the rice milk. This is something that could be added to one of those cereal party mix recipes as a healthier alternative.
One way that I really enjoy eating this cereal is to add either frozen blueberries or chopped frozen cherries and chopped walnuts along with the rice milk. This helps makes it even more healthy and balanced. It also makes the cereal taste even more scrumptious.
Final Analysis
I felt that this was a very tasty cereal even though it doesn't have a lot of sweeteners in it. I like the fact that it is sweetened with unsulphured molasses which is more nutritious than sugar. I think that this cereal may be a healthier choice than some of the more popular cereals found in the grocery store due to the fact that it has no added fat, is made with oat bran and molasses, and has a significant amount of some important nutrients. I also like the fact that it may help lower cholesterol.

Great review. I would definitely buy this cereal.
I'm a fan of the Quaker Quick Oats myself. I have a wheat allergy, so my cereal choices are quite limited. I have never heard of this product, though. Perhaps it is a regional thing? I liked the idea of sweetening with molasses though.
Absolutely have to have my oats, great review :) Sheri
I think I'll give it a try. I like that it's not overly sweet. Artificial sweeteners leave a bad taste in my mouth.
Nice Piece :)
Super review :)

Great review :D
I like to add just a little bit of vanilla to things like this when I'm eating it as a bowl of cereal with milk on it, and that always fools me into thinking it's sweeter than it really is. I'll have to try out this cereal, though, I love bran cereals!
