I began to do research on the subject of work at home by going to the internet. I was not shocked of how many scams were out there. I found that it was better to use keywords like "home based" or "telecommuting". Most of the scams wanted money for training materials. Now I ask you, did you pay your current or previous employer to train you? I know I didn't, but I got training pay. So why would you pay someone to train you. If you come across a work at home job go to the Better Business Bureau and check on the company for any reports or go to the Federal Trade Commission to check with them. There are a lot of international predators out there trying to use your weakness for a work at home job to get money from you. It is better to get jobs from good sources. I use websites like WAHM or Work Place Like Home to help on my search of any info on a company. These sites are people just like us trying to get a legitimate work at home job and they offer feedback on most legit companies out on the web. Other sources for work at home jobs are Monster or Career Builder. The best sources sometimes are creative ideas that you have to make money. Here is a list of work at home jobs that you can do:
Child Care
You can offer child care services in your home and still be with your kids. You can advertise in the paper or do what my friend did and put the word out at church that you are available. One point to make in your advertising is if you are CPR certified, it will catch the attention of prospective clients better than a plan ad. This would require a lot of patience if you plan to keep a good size clientele. It would take some time management skills also.
Get Paid To Answer Offers Or Surveys
If you can find an extra five or ten minutes a day, you might want to sign up for sites like this to make a little extra money. If you answer free offers and sign up for trial offers you can make a small amount of cash. These sites are all over the internet it seems. Most of these sites require you to have Paypal to get pay.
Transcription
General, law, or medical transcription is overflowing with possibilities for work at homers. You can find transcription jobs locally if you solicit local doctor offices. There are also some legitimate companies that are online that employ transcriptionist from all experience levels. With this profession there might be software and equipment requirements.
Cleaning
Have you ever thought to yourself as you were cleaning that you should get paid for this? Well, start a cleaning business. It can be a small list of clientele or a large list. You have a choice of cleaning residences or businesses. My friend approached a real estate office about cleaning vacant houses that they had up for sell, and now since she started she now has three real estate offices calling on her to clean. Doctors' offices also look for weekend cleaning or nightly cleaning. In this profession word of mouth will help build your clientele but if you want more than you can place an ad for it in the local paper and get good response. Don't forget that you will need to factor in the startup cost of the supplies. Remember to include that in your mind when price setting.
Customer Service Call Centers
Who would have thought that you could sit in your home and answer customer service calls for companies? Before you start romancing this idea, ask yourself what hours can you work and do you have a quiet place to answer calls without kids screaming in the background. There is a wide range of companies that is legitimate on the web.
Crafts
Making crafts such as jewelry or candles can be a nice and fun home business. I make jewelry and sell mine at local flea markets and I am about to go online with my collection. If you are interested in doing something like this, research it first. Start by asking yourself who your target audience is and then where would you sell the craft so that your target audience would see it. I started by visiting all the local flea markets. If there are other vendors there that makes the same crafts than you may want to make yours unique or chose another spot. Advertisement will make or break this venture. After you decide where you are going to show your items add the cost of your supplies into the price of the merchandise. After doing this, if it is still reasonable priced then you are ready to start your business.
Concierge
I have a friend that does a concierge service while her kids are in school. She does all kinds of things such as grocery shopping, gift shopping, picks up dry cleaning, picks up prescriptions, etc. She charges by the day. Her clientele comes from business executives that lead a busy life and looking for someone to take care of personal errands. Her mother worked for an ad agency and helped her get her first clients. She also placed an ad in the newspaper to get some clientele. She takes the rising gas prices in consideration when pricing the day. This is stuff you do for yourself everyday and can get paid for it.
Blogging
Do you have a blog that has a lot of traffic? You can apply for things like Googles AdSense and get paid for ads that they place on your site when it generates traffic. You can also check out sites that pay you to blog. If you are a chatty person then this is something you might want to take a chance on. I will warn you that it won't make you bundles but it will make you some. The key to blogging is to have a specific topic that your blog is targeting. This takes a lot of patience. The key to getting traffic is pinging and submitting to search engines.
Writing Articles
If you love to write then you might want to try sites like Helium or Associated Content. They will give you the opportunity to get paid for your articles. They have contests often that you can enter too win. You don't have to be a professional, just make sure that it follows grammar and spelling guidelines.
Those are a few things that can help keep you at home. The key to all of this is to find something that you will enjoy doing. It may even feel at times you are working harder than you did at your last outside of the home job, but remember good things don't come easy. To work at home is to take a big leap of faith in yourself. It takes discipline and good time management on your part. I think that it is funny how women have revolved in the world and now we are in search of having our cake and eating it too. Good luck on your adventure.
